Added 2024-08-22 15:22:38 +0000 UTCSuj and James discuss the demise of one of French Football's most historic and prestigious clubs. A club who won the Ligue 1 title only 15 years ago, but have had to give up their status as a professional football club.
A tale of bad ownership and why the collapse of the league's TV deal has led to one of the best supported clubs in the country turning amateur.

2024-08-23 12:38:38 +0000 UTCBeing a Bordeaux fan all my life it's nice to hear you guys talking about my club even if it's for the worst reason possible. For a bit more context and understanding of what is happening for those interested, the club has been relegated to the 4th division now by the French federation, the club tried to appeal this decision to try and stay in the 3rd after making the decision to no longer be a professional club. The club President Gerard Lopez who does look a lot like James (which makes it difficult to watch your streams sometimes) did buy the club coming in with a lot of backlash with everything that happened with his previous clubs in Belgium, Lille etc. He did make a lot of empty promises to clear the club's debt which was originally accumulated from the US Owners, his management of the club has been horrendous, the club in 22/23 after going down was still spending more money on salaries alone (42M EUR) than it had total income (32M EUR) outside of transfer sells. The total spending was up in the (77M EUR)... Lopez is a big part to blame for what is happening to the club and it's sad that it's going down like that, the losing of the academy is a huge loss for French football, and know that very well personally having myself participated multiple times in the academy summer camps, where young players were coming from all across France to train, it was really one of the best programs available in France. Really really poor from James' evil twin... but on the positive we are seeing some ex players such as Diego Rolan and others who are apparently leaving their current clubs to play for Bordeaux again to help the club go back up as quick as possible. If only FSG had saved the club maybe I could've tolerated Liverpool a bit more! Southampton did save the club a couple of seasons ago when they purchased Sekou Mara, when other clubs who had interest in buying him decided to wait until the club would go under to not have to pay a transfer fee.
