2024-10-02 12:40:59 +0000 UTCFun historic note about the Welsh clubs in Europe is that they used to allow Cardiff/Swansea to enter the Cup Winners Cup. There's loads of clips on Youtube of those games from the 70s/80s, e.g. Real Madrid losing 1-0 at Ninian Park in the early 70s

2024-10-02 12:09:25 +0000 UTCI think it would be harder for Cardiff/Swansea/Wrexham to qualify for a group stage than e.g. TNS under the current structure. TNS entered Europe this season as Welsh champions and started in the UCL, then dropped down into the Conference. This meant they only needed to win two ties against similar teams (champions of small countries) to get into the league phase. Cardiff/Swansea/Wrexham would be entering the Conference straight away, and would have to win 4 rounds to get in. It wouldn't be impossible for them with a favourable draw, but they could draw a PL team in the last playoff round (like Chelsea this year).
