2025-04-03 06:36:41 +0000 UTCWe had a "normal" league (16-20 teams, playing each other twice) from the mid 1900s to the mid 1970s, but it went down to 10 mainly because of declining attendances during the period Celtic were winning 9 in a row (the first time!). You then had a brief period where the league was more competitive, i.e. when Aberdeen were great, but since TV has become a major factor it's been impossible to move off 10/12.
