PETG-HF for general stuff. They often have a 4 spool discount. PC for strong and tough higher temp stuff. ASA-CF for outdoor strong stuff. PPA-CF for really strong stuff (it’s $$$). Matte PLA looks great for trinkets and such. That’ll get you started!

I just bought the X1 combo. The HD2 keeps going up in price and out of stock . Can I get the list of recommended filaments ? I rewatch the video a couple times, but couldn’t catch the exact name of what to order.

I used printers in school too and I actually loved the idea of them but as an adult I really started feeling the need to get one just to have the tool. My main project is an 1925 Durant Star and finding replacement parts for it is functionally impossible for a 100 year old orphan-make. After 20 years I finally have a legitimate spark advance handle and horn button thanks to my Ender 3. I just bought the X1 thanks to your video.

I'm furiously tapping F5 hoping for sticker packs. No project can be called complete without some type of 'Good Enough' seal of approval.

Oh snap, the man has a website up! Gotta get the stickers up there, too. And shards of whichever is the next part to grenade itself.

Think about things faster than the printer can print? That’s why I have four Bambu machines. At one point the entire front suspension on my car was 3d printed parts off these machines. I really want a large format Bambu.

I also waited until this year to get a 3D printer, for the same reason. I wanted a tool not a hobby, and we've just barely reached a point in history where that's possible. I own a Prusa MK4, and my only complaint from an "out of the box experience" perspective is I had to assemble the enclosure myself. I would have gladly paid extra to make that someone else's problem. On the bright side, the printer is open source, so my chance of being able to repair it is maybe slightly higher. As long as I don't risk someone seeing me turning screws on a 3D printer and getting the wrong idea about whether this is a tool or a hobby.

I spent $1100 on a huge ender 3d sprinter right before this printer was announced... So annoyed, now I'm just biding my time until I buy a bamboo...

I thought it seemed extremely likely that you would want to keep the printer as a tool but some of my internet friends encouraged me to reach out! I think it is also likely that I am a nerd, unfortunately, but at least I do not believe that it is a good idea for anyone else to become a nerd. If you ever think you feel the need for a resin printer, I recommend putting your head in a plastic bag with some isopropanol in it for a little while, to get a taste of the experience. You will be relieved of the urge, either temporarily or permanently. Just order parts from Shenzhen and let someone else do it if you need high-precision parts.

I'm trying to minimize modifications and upgrades to the printer to what I've already done, so I'll pass on the expansion board. Pretty cool capabilities though. I think you might be a nerd 😜. I looked at resin printers for a bit but didn't see the need. I suppose i could do an accurate scale wind tunnel model of the land-speed car, but I could probably get there with the Bambu and some sandpaper.

Yeah, this thing is fantastic. I got my X1 a year and a half ago, and my favorite thing about it indeed is that it can be used as a tool, rather than having the printer be the project. Being able to design a part, print it, fit-check it, make a change, and then click print on the new part *and do something else rather than babysitting the printer* was a revelation. I think you have discovered what I have, which is that the printer *can* be a project if you want it to be still, but you can just go back to using it as a tool whenever you're done fucking with it. Speaking of using it as a project and then going back to using it as a tool, I'll plug my thing for the X1 here, I guess -- if you want to do mirrorless timelapses of your prints, I am working on building up an expansion board for the X1 that supports this (and also provides light indications for progress in print, an Ethernet connection, etc). If you want one I'll send you a prototype as long as you promise to use it and tell me what works and what doesn't -- I posted about it on the Bambu forums here: https://forum.bambulab.com/t/x1plus-expansion-board-for-x1-carbon/84350 Oh yeah, one other note, you might be tempted, by the way, to get a resin 3D printer, because you might think 'goodness, I wish I could have finer detail, and the anisotropy of FDM bothers me'. Don't do this. The resin printers are simply superfund factories. They are a project, not a tool. The dimensional stability is terrible. Print failures involve dumping out a vat of a sensitizing allergen and sieving the solid crap out of it. Printing involves tracking resin around your entire shop on your gloves because not only do you have to deal with photopolymer resin, you have to interact with a touchscreen while dealing with resin.

The epitome of "shut up and take my money". It reminds me of a bit in the first dirk gently novel, something about never before having gone from "I didn't know these existed to I need this in my life so quickly". Not an exact quote but you get the idea. BTW for those who want to know (Nerds!) on that occasion it was referring to an electronic I Ching device.

I was maimed in a 3D printing related accident. Almost lost use of my pinky! And when I got surgery to repair the nerve damage my surgeons next patient was someone who had also maimed himself in a 3D printing accident 😂
