Cody and I wonder whether Joel Embiid is the best player to never make an All-NBA first team. Neither of us can remember our 75th Anniversary ballot.

The other other choice is Marc Gasol. I don't understand how Marc Gasol was a weak MVP player by your metrics in 2012-2013 and the DPOTY and only made the all NBA 2nd team.

I'm glad you mentioned Bob Lanier, he's extremely underrated player historically. I also like Lanier-Embiid comparison surprisingly. Joel is a bit bigger and more athletic, but Lanier had the same combination of brute strength, balerina footwork and shooting touch. A lot of people compare Joel to Hakeem, but to me Lanier is a better historical comparison. The similar case is with Nate Thurmond - the guy finished 2nd in MVP voting in 1967, yet he was never selected to all-nba team. Nate the Great is another name that comes to my mind very quickly. It's very easy to look through centers, because of only one spot available. If I had to choose one non-center mention, it's by far Cliff Hagan to me. He was absurdly good at his peak, probably top 5 player in the world.
