Thank you and what's to come

Dear Patrons,

Thanks for your kind responses after my post this week.  I believe YouTube has a rule in the works on creator harassment and I think this may be a good example of that. It would be easy to make a comprehensive video with some facts that completely cleared my name but that would bring him more traffic so this other avenue is probably a better way to go.

I thought it might be a good time to post some behind the scenes updates of what is to come on the channel.

Firstly, the previous scheduled BIQU BX video had to be postponed due to significant bugs in the prototype I was sent. They tentatively asked if I could leave those bits out, of course I refused and reminded them that transparency was vital. I invited them to fix the issues so I could honestly report I was confident in the machine. A newer edition is in the mail so well see how that goes. Either way my experience will be accurately depicted.

Naomi Wu has offered for me to test a Creality CR30/3DPrintMill. This is her baby, which she has developed with the help of the Creality engineers and with respect to the creators of similar prototypes in the past. This is a infinite printing belt concept, more info can be found here (within the first ten seconds you will see what makes this printer so exciting): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UwaWLnGmXk

If this works well, it opens up opportunities for some cool projects, such as an enormous 3D printed foam filament glider, or large car parts. Fingers crossed.

I will be reviewing the newest Phrozen Sonic mini 4K resin printer. The fast speed of the Sonic Mini thanks to a monochrome screen but now with super high resolution. Also planning a general resin workflow video for beginners at some stage.

The recent pellet extruder experiment is still a concept I am very much interesting in. I'm planning to tweak my shredder to produce finer, more consistent particles. I still want to build a filament extruder too. Expect more on recycled filament, both bought and made. n top of that I want to try some laser cutting of recycled sheets.

The Ender 5 will at some stage have an update on the heated build chamber as I know some of you are waiting on that.

I will be doing more mods on the Ender 3 V2, including the latest Ender Extender kit and direct drive kit from printermods. I think the idea will be a polished large format printer like the CR-10 Max for significantly less money.

Still planning on building an open source claw machine. Just need to make a start and chip away in the background.

After the S42B closed loop stepper video, a few people suggested they would be great on a CNC machine. I have three left so I will do a modding video on the Sainsmart 3018 with these, a left over 3D printer mainboard swap with LCD/touchscreen, and conversion to much more powerful dremel as the spindle.

An SKR mini E3 TURBO is in the mail for an updated guide, plus a similar Ender 3 drop in board from MKS should be due soon for a guide as well.

Next video should be getting the Lerdge mainboard onto the new Tevo Little Monster delta. DPT has made videos in the past on this printer, so no doubt he will accuse me of copying him again. Users of our forum will know I have been looking at getting a large delta for some time and this one was a trade with a friend. It just happened to be the only large delta available. Stupid to have to even justify things like this!

Thank you all for your support, whether it be for a day or years at any value. The gesture is what counts to me and your combined  generosity is a big part of what makes it possible for me to do this full time and try my best to serve the community. I constantly remind myself of how fortunate I am.

Michael

I use cut 2D it’s easy to use I picked up it pretty quick a lot quicker the fusion.

This is a project I'm getting closer to. I think all of the parts I've ordered have come, it's just a matter of hitting up some CAD.

Teaching Tech

I used closed loop stepper motors on my cnc they are silent and I don’t loose any steps. I did not use the closed loop motor on the z axis for obvious reasons the steps are always low and the load is low.

I am looking forward to more resin printing content. Thanks for the amazing work you're doing

branden price

I would love that a lot!

I will acknowledge the issues on the first. Then the narrative will either be they fixed it so yours should be fine or there is still bugs, beware.

Teaching Tech

BX is really an interesting one. On paper it is one of the best I've seen. I am a little concerned about the holding torque of the extruder stepper with it being 0.9 but the gearing ratio would likely be able to overcome that. Since they literally only boxed their first one up about three weeks back it is very likely that you got a really early prototype. If the second one works do you plan on elaborating on the issues with the first one in the video or just treating the second one as the review unit since it is the one that others will get? Let's see what the second one holds.

That's actually something I may be covering. I had an ex teacher colleague near me with an Ender 5 that wants helps adding BLtouch and other mods. I was thinking a video with him in where we work through the mods might be good. I also have a 4.2.7 board here. A lot of the time I try to make the videos suit as many situations as possible so it could be good to cover something very specific, including any troubleshooting along the way.

Teaching Tech

That is on the cards. Waiting on a dev to add it to their browser based slicer which means everyone can use it with minimal setup.

Teaching Tech

I would love to see a follow up on non-planar 3D printing.

Peter Richards

I'm looking forward to more videos on the Ender 5. I recently picked up an Ender 5 Pro and would be very interested in any content of taking one of the new 4.2.7 boards and getting things like a BL Touch setup on it. I haven't done this before and Creality sells the board with a box and the board with zero documentation, so you know how that goes.

The biggest standouts are the easy Raspberry pi integration and the Hemera clone. My new one is expected in a bout a week. There should be time before the Kickstarter ends to wait nd see how it compares o this first one, which I couldn't recommend beyond "They will hopefully sort the bugs before shipping".

Teaching Tech

Naomi has put a lot of time into doing the right thing by the people who came before her. She organised a meeting with them and Creality and when it didn't work out she employed one of them as a consultant. I don't think she could have done more to honour IP. All is explained in her video.

Teaching Tech

Im curious about your opinions on the BIQU BX, Im still on the fence if I should back this kickstarter. Just reading the specs it seems like an nice printer. But is it better than the cr6 ir a prusa?

Pål Graff

Also on DPT. I watched several of his videos and I think the guy might be off, I mean seriously paranoid and narcissistic. He seems to think he somehow inspires the entire community and they're all just meanies for not giving him credit for everything done in the community for years. It's crazy, as you know. I have a contribution for for the acronym.. DPT (Delusional Power Trip)

Jess

I disagree with Phil on the cr30. It all comes down to price but I would have BIG interest int hat machine and its infinite z. If they make that thing around $700 or less and it's not total crap I'll buy it straight out.

Jess

Looking forward to the Tevo Delta. A few months from now I might be asking you to review my Delta Mini. The FluffyBot Mini is my eventual aim on my Delta trail. A super high quality, high performance Mini Delta for desktop use. Every office and kid needs one. Obviously fully OpenSource.

Keith Duffield

Shoo Michael, that's a lot of copying. How do you manage to do all that. Hehe

Keith Duffield

If the Creality board is wonky at all, I'll order an EZ board from Tim @ TH3D. I have three that have been workhorses and his online configurator saves me a lot of time. I've played with plenty of machines and Marlin enough over the years and really want to focus on what I'm printing instead of the tinkering. The CR-6 SE approaches what I want: a reasonably priced machine that prints well out of the box and continues to work reliably. My original CR-10 (purchased in FEB 2017) has been a workhorse after a few mods including TH3D's EZ trio (ABL, filament out and 32 bit board) , EZ Struder extruder and Capricorn PTFE. I've only had to replace the z stop switch and most recently this weekend the thermistor. I'm hoping the CR-6 will inherit the CR-10's legacy without any major mods.

Although i think most if not all of us enjoy watching Naomi i dont think the project is worthy of your support . A/ its old technology that they have "borrowed" with no reference to the original creator ( IP theft ....again ) B/ Very limited use . When you get to the production numbers that would justify such a machine injection molding is faster , cheaper and better quality. Its a solution for a problem that doesn't exist . Dont worry about DPT (= Deluded Pretentious Twat) he will squeal whatever you do . Ignore him

Phil Maddox

Great update Michael, lots of exciting projects you've got going on. Forget about DPT it's just not worth the energy. Cheers, JAYTEE

JAYTEE

The idea is I will set it up to be borrowed by local schools and community groups to use for fundraising.

The CR-6 SE was probably the best out of box experience I've had with a 3D printer, even edging my Prusa. I'm heard murmurs of some issues with the new stretch goal 32 bit board, hopefully not too many. Mine had an 8 bit board so I can't test or comment.

Teaching Tech

Uhh oh, I think someone else once modded the Ender 3 V2, how dare you copy them!?!?!? All joking aside, I agree that refuting DPT (I really want to come up with something terrible that those initials clicks stand for) would have been a no win situation for you and the channel. Looking forward to what's in store!

Geoffrey Pitman

What is a claw machine?

Peter Richards

Michael - I know it is hard to "let it go" so I'm DELIGHTED you are taking the high road and not taking his bait. I dropped his channel many many months ago and will never see what he posts. Continue to trust in yourself and your approach - it comes through in the videos. People see you are authentic and candid. I appreciate your work, educational style, and diversity of topics. While I many never fabricate an engine component, I will use your techniques and what I learned in other ways.

David Rolling

I have a mini on order, so very excited to see how it goes!

Peter Richards

Great update and we appreciate everything that you do. Just received my CR-6 SE and very impressed with the unboxing experience. After I do the usual checks and updates and upgrades I will give it a good work out.
