The Cloud Factory Progress

We. Have. The POWUUUHHHHH.

Ahem. Yes we do. I'm happy to say that progress on the Cloud Factory has been going well, and I have may gone too far in a few places, so it's on track to being completely on brand.

There wasn't a post credit scene originally, but after some ideas from Flying Scotsman Productions and some time to meet with episode writer Halfbakedhex8, we managed to write something that I think you'll find well worth sticking around for. That is, if the credits don't float your boat. Which they might!

I was also able to film the scene last Sunday with some new goodies I snagged at the recent Edison show.

I can't give an exact time frame for release just yet, but Steve Garcia recently turned in an impressive minute and a half of animation and the sound design has been shaping up nicely. We are waiting on score and filming the rest of the credits sequence, but the more this episode comes together, the more grateful I am that this wasn't pushed out in 2020. Lot's of added detail and refinement would've only been possible with the timing being what it was.

Best wishes, and as always, thank you for all of your support.

Matt

Hey Nathan! Yes let me answer those for you. 1) I do take pictures for reference! Sometimes I even draw it out beforehand 2) it’s a mix of both. Sometimes I just throw together something that looks cool if it’s just for a passing cameo train. If I’m feeling bold I’ll put a low loader of a pack vehicle or thumper on it for the laughs When it’s for the story, I do plan it carefully. I’d say the consist for Thomas’ train in Thomas and the fortune teller is where I gave it the most thought 3) it’s hard to tell, but even though the tracks are the same and look the same, the one Barford is on is narrow gauge and the two tracks beside him are standard. There’s not really a great way to indicate that in most of the scenes (going full bad influence with the scaling of the two gauges is a bit out of my wheelhouse right now)

Excited for it

Question out of curiosity: whenever you have to go back to locations to build sets and film again, do you ever take pictures for reference/to remember how the tracks were set up and what size pieces were in each spot? Another question is how do you decide what rolling stock will be on goods trains that have a variety of trucks? Do you just grab random trucks or do you carefully select what goods are on the trains? One more question about this episode: are there narrow gauge tracks in this location since Little Barford is narrow gauge or are they dual gauge tracks? Can’t wait to see how this adaptation turns out. :)
