(ACTION NEEDED) More patreon subscription billing migration updates:

Alright, i've received confirmation from patreon support: Everything is ready to start on May 1st. I really wanna believe them, so let's hope it happens 🙏

What action is needed, you may ask? please set your monthly max up to the amount of the tier you'll be migrated into. I explained it in length on the previous post, but here's a tl;dr:

If you fail to do this, you'll be charged less than what your new tier will be next month, and you'll lose access to your rewards!

There will be a new $5/month tier created after the migration. You're free to change to it after the migration happens, or cancel your subscription now (losing access to weekly rewards tho) and return next month at your leisure.

If you're wondering what your tier will provide after the migration, it's detailed on the previous post.

In the meantime, there was another topic I wanted to talk you guys about on the previous post, and that is the frequency of after-hours updates after the migration.

My goal with my subscription platforms, right here right now, remains the same:
Make (adult) comics.

That happens to be an expensive endeavor. Comics take a lot of time to make. Which is why this whole migration thing is a massive wrench thrown at my whole existence.

Full transparency mode, get ready for some boring numbers:
As it stands, patreon on average yields me 2000 usd (give or take) per month under the current system. the number you see on my homepage is inaccurate. it shows you only how much i make with my first paid creation, a number that decreases dramatically with every new paid creation as each individual patron's monthly max kicks in.

Adding to those, the 300 i currently earn at Substar.

On top of that, there's my commission work, another 2k usd minus fees and exchange rate losses), but for this calculation im leaving commission work out.

With that income, I'm able to produce 3 comic pages (or 4 if we take away the Q&As like we did earlier) as well as hire Mizaru for a guest after-hours page each month. Which by the way, costs me 300 usd per page (It started with 250 but i upped it to 300 after the inflation have you seen the cost of eggs holysh), plus some extra fees I pay mizaru for proofreading after-hours pages and licencing fees for his toons. Mind you this is a budget I chose, and mizaru accepted (and dsan too, back in the pandemic).

Conveniently, substar is giving me 300 usd/month, so i can just use that to pay Miz, leaving me with just the patreon income: 2000 for 4 pages. that's 500 usd per page.

Now, when the migration happens, i'm expecting a dip on patronage to occur. how big or how small, i don't know. But it's a dip i'll have to compensate with more commission work (i hope 🤞 ). Which means less comics, more commissions. How many comics? well:

I'll use a milestone system. for every 500 usd raised on patreon, a new after-hours update will be done per month, until it hopefully returns to 2000, or more (imagine that). That way I can gauge how much comic work vs commission work i need to do to stay afloat, on any given month.

I'm leaving "putting the F-train comic in indefinite hiatus" as my nuclear option. I really love mizaru's work and cutting a fellow artist's income is the last thing i wanna do. And it's a comic that has had a very positive reception, with people explicitly asking me where to read it on the regular.

So that's about it. that's my action plan. I'll start working on changing the descriptions for... basically everything, the patreon page, the tier descriptions, making advertising material for the new tiers, and hopefully i'm just making a huge fuzz for nothing and everything will be okay. Thanks for reading if you got this far!! You're the best.

Man, I'm sorry you have to go through all this, it sounds like a huge pain to see the least. I can at least say that I'll definitely be upping to the $20 when th switch happens. Gotta have those comics pages!
