While I do think your technical analysis is flawed here, you brought up a great point - the PS1 was better for the evolution of games because it opened up the development option to more studios and more people, which birthed new franchises, new ideas, and has lead to the multicultural melting pot of ideas that is the gaming industry nowadays. Meanwhile, Nintendo stayed true to its isolation, which also brought it prestige. Nobody is playing the old original Tomb Raider anymore, and Crash Bandicoot shows its age even in the new remake, while Mario 64 remains a well-played game to this day.

I have both the N64 and the PS1 sitting in front of me, and 90% of the time I play my N64 over the PS1. Maybe my PS1 collection is weak compared to my N64, but I find the N64 is just a more fun console.

Playstation more Powerful? You guys need your eyes checked, It had lower frame rates in most of the games shown, awful swimming polygons and textures, lower detail character models in many titles (MK4 being one example) and terrible aliasing. N64 blurriness is from its anti-aliasing and tex compression due to limited storage. And why did you show 2 unrelated Duke nukem games? The N64 version was from the doom era as it was a port of the original Duke 3d while the playstation version was more modern and fully 3d.

This was the first DFF that I couldn't finish because of the ongoing inaccuracies about which console was more powerful. Literally the PS won in only one way: storage space, which was literally the only reason the games looked/sounded better, but the guys kept saying it was because of better hardware. LMAO Brutal.

There was already a clear winner in this episode too, but that didn’t make the information and comparisons any less interesting and part of gaming history. The GameCube actually had some better graphical potential than the PS2. Of course that doesn’t mean the PS2 couldn’t achieve similar graphics. The way a game uses the processors may determine a lot. It was available at the same time as PS2 and Xbox, and therefore, it most certainly be part of the same Versus episode. I would consider it a lack of curiosity to say otherwise out of personal apathy or dislike for the system.

Okay so the whole video you guys argue that the ps1 is a more powerful system when really it isn't and the only thing that makes the ps1 look better at times graphically is the fact that more data is on the disc. The cartridges couldn't store as much data so there were fewer fine details. Just look at the specs and you'll see that the CPU clock speed is like three times that of the ps1. The multiplat games perform better and with smoother frames on the ps1, but the ps1 has the extra data being executed for lighting and stuff. Man if only sony and nintendo didn't split

This episode was terribly researched and I'm gonna go full tism on you for it. You guys couldn't compare the specs side by side and just assumed that the Playstation is better. Other than it's CD format the N64 is way more powerful.
I found this shit on wikipedia after 15 minutes of research.
TLDR: The n64 beats it in every area but is held because of the smaller storage medium.
CPU
Playstation: 32-bit running at 33.8 MHz able to do 30 MIPS (millions of instructions per second)
N64: 64-bit running at 93.7 MHz able to do 125 MIPS
Graphics
Playstation uses a co-processor in the CPU and a separate GPU to produce 360.000 to about 90.000 polygons (with full effects) has a max resolution of 640×240 in progressive and 640×480 in interlaced and a color depth of 16,777,216 colors
The N64 as a 64-bit GPU running at 62.5 MHz and while wikipedia doesn’t list the polygon count from other sources the general consensus puts it at 1 million with no effects to 200.000 with full effects. It has a max resolution of 720×576 and has the same color deph but capable of 2,097,152 colors on screen at once.
Audio:
The same specs wise however the Playstation can stream music directly off of the CD like any CD player can, so it generally sounds better.
The advantages that you see in some games on Playstation has everything to do with the fact that assets didn’t have to be as compressed to fit the format like they did with the N64. Specs wise the N64 is the same or better than the Playstation. Really just the format that the sony had over nintendo.

I haven't played bubsy 3d or superman 64, but it really is a toss up of the worst game ever. I think superman 64 is probably worse because the timer leaves no room for error, where you can screw around in bubsy and take your time.

This is not much of a contest. The N64 was great, and had a lot of nostalgia going for it, but the PS1 was revolutionary. It destroys the N64 in just about every category. The games could be sold for less because CDs are extremely cheap to produce, N64s had their own cartridge that game developers had to buy from nintendo, so they were very expensive. The library of the PS1 was expansive and very deep/rich. The N64 catalog is very sad, with a lot of garbage, like Quest 64 etc. Third party software developers had a much easier time producing games for the PS1 as the N64s hardware was notoriously difficult to develop for. Then we come to the hardware itself. The PS1's hardware was superior, period. Not to mention the PS1 controller, which is the same design (ish) still used today. The N64s controller is terribly designed. Anyways....just my 2 cents, and thats coming from a Nintendo fanboy who loved his SNES and NES.

I was definitely a PS1 guy. It just had the games that appealed to me. I remember first seeing Crash Bandicoot and being mesmerized by that game, and then the Final Fantasy games (among other RPGs like Legend of Dragoon and Chrono Cross) pretty much sealed the deal.
