I'm not sure I buy the cell phone addiction thing. It's like saying you're addicted to having your wallet, or your keychain. I feel somewhat naked if I don't have my Swiss army knife available too, and a smartphone is basically the electronic equivalent of that. Going without it means depriving myself of a whole briefcase worth of tools. Clock, notepad, calculator, calendar, flashlight, camera, the telephone itself of course, the list goes on and on, and that's just what comes standard. Even without a network connection it's still an imminently useful piece of technology.
