Patrons Highdeology February 2022

 https://youtu.be/ksUVrfEWmog

This one turned into a movie commentary of The Most Dangerous Game, a film from 1932 based on a short story featuring a big-game hunter being hunted by a Russian aristocrat (which some of you may have read in school). A rare watch-along with Paul of a truly great film!

See these things require context, what if the person currently loss everything? What is more important getting back on your feet or finishing a project that even if you do won't fix your current situation? Same with the kids in the theater, what if they actually wanted to take the kid to see a movie? What if they can't afford baby sitters? Granted babies won't even care for the movie but a lot of 2-3 year olds who still cry actually enjoy cartoon movies. But then again what if the Nazi's didn't kill people.

To me it sounded like he kept trying to copy the voice of Crane.

We aren't hungry because we've never been allowed to starve. We're the instant gratification generation and we just can't imagine actually working for our gratification because no one made us do so until we went out into reality to make a go at life. We're a mentally fucked generation.

The protagonist in dying light 2 has a shitty voice actor, he sounds like a one of those whiny anime guys. I looked into it and it's because the actor voices whiney anime guys.

Some guy in basic got a blister so bad the bottom of his heel just sloshed off. Couldn't have happened to a better guy, dude was a snooty ass with a widows peak and a face like a Who down in Whoville.

I 100% don't argue that there is a sour work ethic surrounding us. It would have been just as nice if you brought up the ethic of the business towards the worker as well. I'm sure you'll agree with this, Paul: Businesses are responsible for encouraging a good work ethic, just as much as we are for having one. Since May 2021, I've had more jobs than I'd had EVER combined. (TLDR Crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath for employers to get themselves together. It's just as hard finding good work as it is finding good workers.) 1. Moved 1,000 miles from home in May, got a job at a call center, everyone got fired because people were smoking in the parking lot, in their cars, on break. 2. My first real job in fast food, biscuit maker at Bojangle's. Hired on (I thought, sign said) for 12/hr. Received 8.75. Did work-from-home designing for a month. I always do this, so it felt like vacation. 3. Taco Bell. Everyone's hours got cut to 5hrs/wk effective Nov 1st, until January 10th. The manager calls himself "a numbers guy" and I was a manager at Walmart for 3 years. I know what low hours during holidays do to your bonus. This guy is especially egregious. 4. Hardee's. Biscuit-maker. Low hours, high-workload. Biscuit-maker does ALL lunch prep...setting pans, ice baths for tomato/lettuce, prep tom/lett and set out, AND THEN prep 2 batches (6-8 pans, 12 per pan, 72-96 biscuits) JUST for first hour of opening...It was common to make 7-10 batches per shift including prep. You go in at 4am, out at 12pm. You wash ALL of the breakfast dishes, pans, biscuit station. Didn't let me bring my own slip-proof shoes, you HAD to buy theirs. You are asked to be there 3:30am or your hours get cut per the handbook. You are not paid for that 30 minutes. All this and more for only 9/hr. Going back to the call center in another location March 4th coming up. Rolling my eyes, but crossing my fingers.

Thanks for the great show, Paul! The Most Dangerous Game is the film that cultivated my love of pre-code cinema. During this period, so many great films were made that crossed boundaries and pissed off the catholic church to the point of protest. The subject is worthy of a full episode of DFF. If you're interested in more, I recommend watching I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang, The Black Cat, Night Nurse, The Dark Horse, and Jewel Robbery.
