All these cute little half-measures we're taking, like fighting for human rights, universal healthcare, taxation that shifts the burden of a capitalist system slightly off the backs of the poor, etc. are more or less pointless. And I agree that you have to take some measures and that they will make a small bit of difference, but I don't think there's anything short of global nuclear annihilation or a benevolent A.I that will that could actually save humanity. And the former would probably just reset the clock by ten thousand years and we (humanity) would wind up in a similar situation again. A.I is the only way as far as I can tell. We are simply not intelligent enough to manage the affairs of a global population, and groups of people are even LESS intelligent than individuals. BUT ANYWAYS, I'm curious, Paul: if a benevolent A.I determined that the most humane outcome to save humanity was to painlessly execute 95% of the population, would you take issue with that? Because getting rid of 50% wouldn't do dick, and unless you have a better idea to not only slow down population growth but drastically reduce the population before the planet is completely trashed, what other option is there? Let the A.I cull the herds and restore balance in a way a sociopathic narcissist like Thanos never could. Anyways, great ep. I enjoy when you guys disagree a little bit, it adds some extra fire to the show and makes the discussion more interesting. Thanks fuckers! Edited: accidentally said "latter", meant "former".

Saying the vote for Brexit to leave EU is inherently a negative thing for the UK is incorrect and conversely saying it is a positive for the UK is also incorrect. No one actually knows the outcome of leaving the EU and besides good or bad democracy was the elected tool for the decision and that should be respected. Regardless leaving the EU has both pros and cons.

2019-08-29 17:44:43 +0000 UTCI'm not saying that people who talk about overpopulation are racist or even support eugenics, but I do think that overpopulation is highly overdramatized. There is a good book by the name "Empty Planet" that deals with how the UN report about population growth is probably wrong because it doesn't take into account all the technological changes (Even people in Indian slums have smartphones now... and smartphones do influence fertility rates) and urbanization. Even a professor who has constantly talked about the dangers of overpopulation has now said that he doesn't think that it will be as bad as it was estimated. Alternative estimates published by other researches who research population growth go even so far as to say that population growth will stop around 2050 (Probably aroudn 9 billion) and afterwards will at the beginning shrink slowly, then very fast and probably will never go up again. Hence our problem in 100 years will not be overpopulation, but rather an "overaging" since less and less young people will be born, whereas old people will get older. All of this of course probably will only happen if we survive and deal with climate change and if our world economic system doesn't collapse.

And honestly, I have been a Patron since it came out. $5 a month is SOOO worth it for the amount of content they put out. If people don't want to contribute, then fuck them. I don't want them getting it for free.

Just make the world into total anarchy where nowhere is safe, there isn't an economy, though you could still do barter, and where comfort doesn't exist anymore for anyone. Level the fucking playing field and at that point, we won't have any of these modern issues because 90+% of the population would simply just starve to death. At that point, you can rebuild and you make use of the books and information of old, hopefully there's any preserved at that point, and rebuild a future with tech that comes closer to modern age. This is an almost over night solution, because it only takes like a week to starve, it takes months for cans of food to spoil, but they're not infinite and one person can only handle so many cans at once, and most people don't know how to farm to subsist and would rely heavily on hunting which would still cause most people to die because meat preservation is shockingly lost on most people. So like, a year tops, most of the Earth's people are yeeted from existence and those of the able can start over on the ashes of the past in like 5-10 years, 30 tops. I don't really endorse this, but good fucking god do I wish it would happen just like that some times with some of the people on this planet. Unfortunately, there's one who I wouldn't want surviving who would who's related to me and thinks that the US government is hiding space high-ways he found on Google Earth. I'm not making that up and he's trying to teach his 2 children that stuff and his wife is complicit in all of it.
