I'm not a scientist but I'm guessing it's a similar mutation. Purely my conjecture from this point onward but I'm guessing it may be useful for building social connections if you can have a child with your wife but also deep nearly or fully romantic relationships with other men even if not sexual. You see it alot in the history of the british empire where gay men would form deep friendships and working relationships with other men because they could not be openly gay, so I'm guessing maybe a similar principle where if you can form romantic relationships with men and women that could help you by creating deep alliances with other people in the group. I can't say for sure though that's just my guess based off of historical information and trying to guess what could be the possible advantage to the trait.

2023-08-07 09:51:31 +0000 UTCOne of the theories I've heard is that gay people are useful evolutionarily because in a hunter gatherer society it's useful to have people who are not competing for the women/men and who are able to still help out and care for the family(because your birth parents don't always survive or care). Also useful if you had a couple of guys who have to go away on a trip for a long period of time, you can see a lot of that in the unofficial practices of armies and navies, now and historically.
