Woman is clearly having a schizophrenic episode, panicked that someone's trying to kill her, lying to police because she thinks they're in on the conspiracy to kill her, yet they let her just go out on the town the day after being released from the hospital. Her best friend agrees to just dump her on the roadside when she has a panic attack rather than taking her back home. Absolute incompetence from top to bottom, assuming Scotty isn't right about her mom being in on it.
