We basically evolved to crave food high in fat, salt and sugar because those nutrients were rare in our Hunter gatherer ancestors lifestyles. But now we’ve managed to create foods that have more of those things than we could ever need which is why we have an obesity crisis. It’s not that they’re unhealthy on their own. It’s the quantities that we eat them in because of our biological programming. Also it helped our ancestors to store excess energy as fat and hold onto it because the alternative was starving to death. Our ancestors probably got a lot more exercise than we do on average too because they had to get their food themselves because supermarkets didn’t exist.

Regarding Paul’s musings about paid time off out of the US. In Ireland, there is the following, required by law: - 4 weeks paid vacation (there are also 10 bank holidays each year that people have off) - 5 days paid sick leave - paid compassionate leave for several days (which is when a close loved one dies or you need to be a caretaker) - 26 weeks paid maternity leave - 2 weeks paid paternity leave - 7 weeks paid parental leave (an additional leave for new parents, male and female, in addition to maternity or paternity leave) This is about the bare minimum that you get in Europe. A lot of mainland countries have even greater leave benefits.
