2023-11-14 00:17:03 +0000 UTCHaving had philosophy as one of my majors, I can say that the dude in the video is not technically wrong that moral relativism is extremely unpopular in philosophy. The thing missing here, however, is that the claim that morality is subjective and the claim that it is relative are not technically the same thing. It comes down to how you access the truth value of moral statements. A cultural moral relativist would say, for instance, that moral truth is decided by the values of a given culture. This leads to situations where it is simultaneously true that an act, (lets say cannibalism), is morally wrong while in one country and morally good or neutral while in another. I think its clear why this is unpopular.

What's the 'effective unemployment rate' of people living below the threshold required to replace themselves and have a family? Where's the data from 2019 through 2023? Why do 10,000 individuals control 10% of the planet's wealth? Why are half of these organizations, which used to be very easy to find data on, no longer publicizing their records? Even real estate agencies are missing enormous chunks of data from the past 20 years. Where has truth gone?
