Great show guys, would love to see a sequel that is somehow better than the original. Sadly not all of the takes were shit. Some weren't even "hot takes," ppl have been fucking on LOTR from the jump. And some I can't comment on due to ignorance, but I completely agree with TJ on Blade Runner. Total snooze fest, in my case literally! As for the whole rant about saving The Room over The Godfather, I would agree to an extent substance-wise, although I still believe it's possible to construct any random false dichotomy where one might prefer a more "artsy" film over a "fun" film. TJ's case was a little too extreme since we all know he has a shit take on The Godfather. But would he jump into a burning building to save The Room if a more "respectable," but still less "fun" film was on the line, such as Seven Samurai? It's an impossible question at the end of the day, since there is no one objective standard by which literally all films should be judged, even the standard of "pure entertainment." By that standard, I should prefer Gremlims 2 or Female Trouble over The Rules of the Game, which is still the #1 "artsy fartsy" film ever created. But I can't see myself taking my personal preferences on what is entertaining and trying to use that as the standard for what "all art should be" in the realm of cinema. And I say that even fully knowing that Gremlims 2 is objectively more entertaining than Rules! Sadly, TJ's worst take, on the film Se7en, I feel was not properly countered by Scotty and Paul. The whole conversation just devolved into a non-sequitur discussion about Brad Pitt, but it's not even remembered as a "Brad Pitt movie" per se. It really should have been defended as one of the quintessential film noirs in literally all of cinema history, which is no small feat. Shit, even Fincher himself hasn't come anywhere close to achieving that stylistic greatness in any subsequent film, even though a lot of them have attempted to mimic those visual sensibilities (Zodiac, The Game, etc.). There was so much that could have been said to defend Se7en's stature in the realm of modern-day noir films, but it never really got there. Hopefully TJ will get this much needed comeuppance in a future DFF tangent, he really needs to be put in his place, lol! But overall, a wonderful show, hope to see more like this. A possible DFF that could be awesome: a "top 10 list" of films that ppl won't believe that you've never seen. Everybody has them. I used to be heavy into the whole history of films, foreign and domestic, I made it a point to watch all 100 of the AFI Top 100 list, tried to watch every Criterion Collection film (jumped ship mid-300's) but even as of today I haven't seen Django, or Mary Poppins, or Princess Bride, Top Gun, Ferris Bueller...the list goes on! (Still can't believe TJ hasn't seen Pan's Labyrinth, like whut the actual fuck!) Sorry for the rant if you even made it this far, film used to be a passion of mine in my mid/late 20's and I've seen a lot of films.
