Paul asked where medieval christians got their werewolves from, one thing you have to remember is christianity was born and fostered in the roman empire and was enveloped in Mediterranean culture and folklore so alot of the early church stuff was an adaptation of older practices. Similarly alot of the folklore just stuck around even if officially denied, the peasants in the countryside(who are the majority of your population) are still going to believe some of the things they believed pre-christianity.
