Ethnicity has nothing to do with an individual's culture anymore. There are black dudes dressing in French maid outfits going to anime conventions. Is that Black culture? I know if they change Peter Parker to be Latino, I wouldn't relate to him any more than I already do.

DownrightSuperb

LAME is not an offensive term anymore. It used to mean physically impaired. I've got a lame hip or I've got a lame horse. If you call someone in a wheelchair "the lame kid" nobody would know what you're talking about. Same with GAY.

For me the issue with the overuse of the ‘woke’ claim on shows is simple. Writing on the whole for shows and movies has been ass for years. Main characters get shit on by the writers to prop up weaker characters in lieu of actually developing the side cast with good material of their own. Rey is the perfect example but there are many more, and it’s showing signs of being moved beyond. Reacher has great side characters, as does Arcane and Stranger Things. I just hope for good stories I don’t give a fuck about if a character is *insert ‘woke’ character element* as long as it serves some small part of the overall story. The Stranger Things character Robin is a great example of how you insert that kind of material well. She’s awkward and it’s clearly suggested that because she is a lesbian in the 80’s she struggles when interacting with women, but it is handled really well. Woke-ness for the sake of lip service to audience will always annoy people, but if you handle it well it goes over well and gives the haters no material to even try to argue. Luckily culture is shifting more towards acceptance as times move on so that’s also a bonus.
