I always saw Franks sober side as him not being his real self this episode always felt like when hes drunk that's him that's the real Frank Gallagher and when he's sober that's his perfect dad persona a front a fake version of him that feels real but is actually a speeding train that is going to fall off the tracks and crash and burn. And I always saw Lip as someone who loves his father more than the other kids and has been let down or disappointed more by him, Fiona has always had to be the adult taking care of Frank and the kids so she's numb to Franks failures as a father Ian has never been close to Frank in anyway and the other kids are so young they've only ever really known Fiona and Lip as parental figures, but for Lip his dad was his world once and he's heartbroken that this perfect dad persona isn't his real father.
