Great to see your reaction to the new season of Heartstopper, Alex. I completely got your emotional response to the ending of episode one. Not only were Charlie’s words - and Tori’s reaction to them - very poignant (for all the reasons others have said above) but, as you said, Nick’s face of sheer joy also brought a huge lump to the throat - and a massive smile, the combination of which is going to hurt my face for ages! This is also in part due to the accompanying music. The choice of the fabulous Wolf Alice’s ‘The Beach’, with its euphoric, steadily building crescendo, a perfect choice to end the first episode, it nicely mirrored the use of the band’s incomparable ’Don’t Delete the Kisses’ at the end of the first episode in season one. Then, Nick, if you remember, was smiling broadly then when he received Charlie’s ‘Thank you x’ message as he rode home in the car having just rescued Charlie from Ben’s assault. Having never even heard of Wolf Alice before Heartstopper, I have been obsessed with the band ever since. A big shout out to the playlists in both seasons - another triumph along with everything else. I too have already watched the whole second series and - no spoilers - I enjoyed it as much as the first season but in a very different, slightly more complex way, which I think reflects the way season two has been written, directed and acted. All I will say is that I teared up far more in this season (at least once every episode, and right up to the very last frame of episode 8) at something someone said or did, or the way a situation was presented. Keep the tissues close by, Alex, but rest assured, it will all be good emotion. Keep the fantastic insight and analysis coming, as well as the trademark high emotional intelligence. 🙂❤️

I definitely think season 2 is even better than season 1. It’s a great first episode but there are some worrying signs of Charlie assuming too much responsibility for Nick’s welfare and Tori’s face in the closing shot says everything about the idea that Charlie thinks it’s his job to make everything ‘perfect’. This need to try and control everything is understandable, given what we know about his experiences of being outed and bullied, but it’s also unrealistic and unsustainable. 😔

I have been really looking forward to your reactions to season 2, Alex. I will be watching this later..❤️

The chemistry between Joe and Kit make the show. You’re right shows rarely get this good with casting. I think this season is as good as last season while adding some maturity a show like this needs to survive. Already dreading the long wait till season 3.

I have watched the entire series (like many, I did it the first day it was available), and I definitely agree with those who say this is a stronger season than the first one, and I absolutely love the first one. Most of the reasons why I can’t say without spoiling, so I won’t. But I will say that when I first watched it I was concerned during Charlie’s final speech about trying to help make sure Nick doesn’t have any angst in his coming out. I felt as though Charlie was trying to take responsibility for things that he can’t necessarily control, and given his personality, there seemed to be the likelihood, that if something goes wrong, he would blame himself, because that’s what he has done in the past. (You’ll have to watch later episodes to find out whether or not I was right to feel that way.) But the kissing montage near the beginning of the episode is pretty wonderful, and I really enjoyed the coming out with Imogen. Overall, I think it’s a pretty terrific first episode.
