*EARLY* (FULL/UNCUT) Heartstopper 2x07 REACTION - "Sorry"

Comments

Ben has made the best possible decision, going somewhere else for Sixth Form. He must know he has no friends left at Truham. They all despise him, and he really must get away from that. If he really has come to understand how badly he’s behaved, if he really wants to change, the best way is to do it is among people who don’t know him and his history. If he CAN do it, that is. Changing a lifetime of behavior and relationships and attitudes is NOT easy, and he really should find a good therapist to help him. But it can be done. We can wish him well and wish him luck, so long as he’s doing it somewhere else.

how did u know it was going up today..😳

Alex

Not to be annoying (she says right before being annoying) but I'm also really looking forward to your 2x08 reaction. Just imagine us all in a corner whimpering pathetically as we wait.

When do you think you will upload last episode

I don’t think anything is unintentional in this show, and it seems unlikely they would have her look at this painting for absolutely no reason. Also, I have just discovered that the painting she looks at isn’t even in the Louvre: it’s in the National Gallery in London. So they’ve gone out of their way to make sure it’s this painting she’s looking at, and again, I can’t imagine them doing that without that specific painting being chosen. And I don’t know any other reason it would be chosen, except as inspiration for Elle.

Lane Wright

I think the timeline for Elle to be inspired by the painting is not quite right as she receives her acceptance letter the day she gets back from Paris. So she would have had to have painted her application piece before left for Paris. Unless it's just been overlooked but I do love the idea of that painting inspiring Elle to paint per picture.

Totally understand Alex’s emotional reaction to Nick’s coming out to his father. The emotional intensity of the series has definitely been on an upward trajectory in these later episodes. I also get Alex’s mixed reaction to the ambush apology scene with Ben. Maybe it’s because I’m much older than the characters that I found the exchange between the two teenagers quite uncomfortable. Apologising and asking for/ giving forgiveness, like human behaviour, are very complex and complicated. Charlie’s anger at Ben is completely understandable, giving him short term relief, and satisfying an understandable need for justice, even vengeance. However, it doesn’t really deal with his more deep-seated hurt, not just at the hands of Ben but also from all those who bullied him for being gay in the previous year. When he addresses those issues properly, he will feel strong enough for Ben’s treatment of him not to affect him in the same way. He doesn’t have to forgive Ben, but he might be in a place where he just pities him, or simply dismisses him from his mind completely. In the meantime, at least Charlie’s reaction shows him expressing his feelings rather than suppressing or hiding them and letting them turn in on himself. And, of course, he now has Nick to be by his side and support him on that emotional journey.

Totally agree on all points!

This is a really great episode. I agree it's good to see the growth in Tao in this one. I was especially happy for Isaac. That was perfect timing for him to hear that. That scene with Darcy at the end always gets me choked up. Loved your reaction. Look forward to the finale.

Joe Lancaster

This is once again a very strong episode with a lot of really important moments, all of which you had good things to say about. I do think Tao shows a lot of growth in this episode the way he responds to Elle’s painting and the news that she has been accepted into the art school. By the way, if you think back to the painting that Elle was focusing on in the Louvre, it’s clear that the painting she does is at least somewhat inspired by that painting. The scene with Ben is a very important one, and I also think it’s significant that when that rainbow stream comes toward him, he clearly rejects it, suggesting that he is still unable to come to terms with his own sexuality, and making it questionable that he will ever really change.
