best episode of the entire series

Not only are you not the only one obsessed with this episode. So are the actors. Many have said in interviews they think this is the best episode they've ever made, especially Kit and Joe. The scene where Nick breaks down in the hallway gets me everytime. Just thinking back to season 2 when he and Charlie talked about how they hoped they'd always sneak off to spend time together at parties and then in season 3 Nick doesn't have not only his partner but his best friend to sneak off with at the party and how alone he must feel in that moment. I love that Tao can be there for him in that moment.

I 100% agree that this is the best episode of the series so far (not that the other episodes aren’t wonderful). The storytelling is not just clever, but also skillfully presented so that you get all the important information about what happened during that period of time from either Nick’s journal entry, Charlie’s journal entry, or Tao’s video (and incidentally, the reason his video looks like that is because he’s using his father’s old camera, which is clearly from an earlier era). And the moment in the episode that I think gets to everybody (it certainly does to me) is the one with Nick and Tao in the hallway during the Halloween party. I’ve watched that scene at least half a dozen times, and the tears come every time I watch it.

The week that Netflix released S3 - and I watched this outstanding episode - was also the week my son went into rehab. Like Alex, I’d already had an emotional response to each previous episode but my reaction to E4 was visceral. The characters commenting on the ‘horror stories’ that you hear about what happens in some rehab placements hit home hard. Then Alex talking about his own experiences as a teenager, and seeing his response to this episode just added to the realness of the situation it was portraying. You’re totally right about E4, Alex. It is a masterpiece both in its narrative structure and the way it deals with some incredibly sensitive issues. And, of course, in the way the actors capture the intensity of the emotions of their characters. Nick breaking down in Tao’s arms had me weeping; without anything being said between the two, the scene is as powerful as when Charlie tells Nick about his self-harming at the end of S2E8 and they tearfully hold on to each other like their lives depended on it. That was my favourite scene of S2 but S3E4 is, I agree, the best episode of the whole Heartstopper phenomenon.

Yes, loved ep 4 the best. Watching Nick break down was hard, but then watching his world fall back into alignment when he first saw charlie at the clinic was such a relief. Charlie's anguish and pain was also hard to watch, but now he has strategies to work with, people to support him and he has his rock. Both joe and kit really upped the acting chops this episode.
