2025-02-21 15:03:14 +0000 UTCIn my opinion, Heartstopper started out with a really terrific first season, and each season has surpassed the previous one, with the third season the best so far. There has not yet been an announcement about the fourth season, though in an interview Alice, the creator and writer of the show, said they’re still working on it and they are optimistic about it happening. A couple of things about your comments: first, Nick is not going to university the next year because he still has one final year left before he graduates. That means he will still be at Truham in the next season when/if it happens. And the end of the final episode was intentionally kept from being a cliffhanger in case the fourth season doesn’t happen. A cliffhanger was OK at the end of the second season because the third season was already assured, but without a cliffhanger at the end of season three, if that ended up being the end of the entire series, it wouldn’t be jarring. About Nick’s mother: Olivia Coleman, who plays the role, is a very much in demand actor, and she simply had too many conflicts with the shooting schedule of Heartstopper to be able to be in it. So the season had to be written so that you never saw her, and the character of Nick‘s aunt was added to give Nick the parental kind of figure he needed, particularly at the end of episode two.
