The things I can actually say, because they said them during the first two episodes: - Aang was raised by monks (as Zuko was saying "you dont know of fathers"), because he is (well.. was) part of the air nomads so it seems logical that he wouldnt think about his parents. Also, yes, he is stupid, he's 12 after all. - the most important thing you probably missed during the intro of the first episode: the Avatar should have been reborn into the airnomads; that is why everybody immediately clocked Aang: the Avatar should be an airbender / Aang is the last airbender / Aang is the Avatar - last thing, just because I found it very good writing: the guards are not weak (I mean, at least not THAT weak), but as Aang said, they've NEVER met an airbender, so they don't know how they battle or what they can do, it's easy for him take them by surprise Sorry for the long ass answer 🥺
