Virtual Reality Thing
Added 2021-04-08 18:15:56 +0000 UTCHey!
So recently I finally got my hands on a VR headset.
After playing with it for some time I naturally got interested in the question of how hard would it be to transfer my animations to the VR realm?
The answer is - not that hard but there are still some concerns about how much interest people would have in something like this.
The thing is - to render something for VR and make it at least look decent it has to be in very high resolution with high framerate. Otherwise, the viewer will just puke his brains out.
The other words - takes a lot of time and resources to render even a short clip.
So right now I don't really know if it is going to worth the effort. If there is enough interest - sure. I can probably do this stuff here and there, but I'm not gonna do entire long animations. This would be ridiculous to render.
To have a test subject - I made a VR version of the most recent WIP shot. Animated version of it and I also had put it under the 5$ tier so more people could have an opportunity to see it and have an opinion. It is 180 degrees side by side shot. (360 would be even crazier to render)
You can check it down below.
Let me know what you think of it!

Hey, sorry, but if I'm going to do it, it's not going to be soon. It would require quite an amount of resources to make it happen. I will start thinking about it more when I finish all my other projects.

2021-05-07 20:17:14 +0000 UTCHey Guilty, Just thought i'd comment to say that I subbed mostly to show my support of the idea of you updating some of your videos' to VR. 180 would be all you need. While not all of your current video's would necessarily convert easily the Spider Gwen x Venom one should work pretty well.
2021-05-07 18:34:11 +0000 UTCThe only way to accomplish what you suggesting is to transfer animations to a game engine like Unreal. And it could be done and I'm even interested in learning UE4 but it would require a lot of work and also some coding knowledge which I, unfortunately, don't have. But maybe someday.

2021-05-02 22:19:50 +0000 UTCI finally got around to testing it on Valve. I think 180 is plenty unless you started putting things to focus on not directly in the center. Like if it was a whole room of Eyes Wide Shut then you'd want 360, but when you're just focused on one scene in front. 180 is plenty. Pretty good quality too. How hard would it be re-render your previous stuff in VR? Is it just a matter of rendering 2 videos essentially that go side by side? My one criticism/suggestion would be entirely changing the format. Since I'm more used to the game VR and not the video VR, it felt a little strange being locked to a center viewpoint. I wanted to move around. I have no idea how it would work but if your animations could just be switched to a game environment that would be great. Then the rendering is on the user side too. Like for the test scene you gave us, if we were confined to just move our camera/view around the room while the animation played out, that would be amazing.

2021-04-24 01:50:27 +0000 UTCIf I watch the video in VR does that count as me having spidergwen GF?

2021-04-11 23:50:58 +0000 UTCPersonally, I also do not think VR is worth the time cost yet. So, for what it's worth, I vote focus on what's faster and easier for you to create :)

2021-04-10 03:05:52 +0000 UTCI appreciate your input. Of course, I didn't plan to do 5 min VR animations. Maybe some short scenes that I deem worthy. Just for the sake that I think some of them would fit and look cool in VR. And does resolution higher than 4K even make a difference? As far as I know, the resolution of the lenses doesn't have that high pixel count, even on HP headsets.

2021-04-09 22:41:54 +0000 UTCPersonally I don’t think Vr is worth at in this point in time especially if it comes to Vr-Porn. I owned a Valve Index, a Quest 2 and a G2 Reverb (4k per eye Vr-Headset from Hp) and non of them impressed me, neither in gaming nor in RL/3dx Vr-Porn. The colors are still pretty dull compared to high quality Va/Ips Monitors. Don’t get me started about FOV or the sweet spot… I used to think that Vr’s biggest problem would be the so called “screen door effect” but it’s really not, you can see it with the Index but in the Quest 2 and G2 Reverb it’s barely visible. Resolution is the major Problem. Even when downloading 8k high bit-rate RL-Vr-porn with over 40gb per video it still looked grainy AF but at least it was somewhat watchable. 3Dx-Vr-Porn however was just a straight up nightmare. 4K resolution is just a joke if it comes to image quality, even 5 and 6k are barely watchable. In my opinion Vr-porn needs at least a resolution of 8k (high bit-rate) to be worth it. However even if you’d manage to somehow do an 8k VR version of your 5min animations the 30min one would be completely impossible. I mean maybe your dad works at NASA and you can borrow some of their computing power?! Jokes aside even at 8k resolution the effort simply wouldn’t be worth it. Furthermore watching Vr-porn is also just pretty inconvenient at this point compared to watching it on pc. Yeah some people will watch it via their Vr-headsets but given the choice most either don’t have one or would simply prefer watching it on their Tv/Monitor/Tablet or even smart-phone. Don’t get me wrong, Vr itself is a great technology that will get very far and do great things but at this point in time it’s just not worth the trouble. The people that absolutely love Vr will obviously say otherwise but ask yourself how many of them are actually out there... The representation of Vr-Headsets is even lower than 4k monitors. Tldr: Not worth the effort.

2021-04-09 15:42:57 +0000 UTCI have a VR headset - but I'm not fond of wearing it nor does it make the content more interesting to me. On the contrary - it greatly limits its use and the clips are often also much shorter / one-sided. And it's also always the same models that are supported. I don't mind a few vr works - but unless Aerith also gets supported with clips (which is almost never the case) I'm no longer interested in the device.

2021-04-09 02:50:29 +0000 UTCGet in touch with Darkdreams, he does VR and converts others into VR.

2021-04-09 02:13:27 +0000 UTCI was able to download it directly to my Quest without having to use a Quest link or anything. I'd definitely be interested in seeing more VR stuff, especially if it involves this Gwen animation you've been working on. A POV with Gwen riding you while facing you would be the best thing ever.

2021-04-09 01:05:59 +0000 UTCVR may be cool, but the setup is kind of expensive, so i don't plan to buy one anytime soon. If you limit the time and effort you spend into VR it won't bother me. Anyway, i wish you the best :)

2021-04-08 21:57:20 +0000 UTCOnly tried VR once and it was pretty cool. If this will be the case though to covert and have the videos available for VR then I know what my next investment will be in. 😝

2021-04-08 19:12:05 +0000 UTCI'll test it tonight on my vr (steam headset version - forgot what it's called). Also if it's more trouble than it's worth, eh. Just don't have the head and eyes track the headset, that shit's creepy as hell XD
