When publicly posting December 2018's 'Queen Samus' picture today, I was reminded that there were a few other concepts that I went through first, and figured I should probably have shared them with you guys way back when!
Concepts included a winch and chain connecting Samus to the throne that could be reeled in at any time, dangling Samus above her new throne and (un)ceremoniously dropping her onto it with a soft "fwump", and a palanquin-style throne-carry.
Ultimately, the chain ideas proved a little too hard for me to do justice, and I didn't like the way her dress got kinda flattened when actually sitting on the throne. The blobby, painterly style piece on the right was provided by Suichi as a composition concept for parading Samus through the streets/castle of the Koopa Kingdom, allowing for a crowd scene while still keeping focus on Samus and her bondage.
You can see that the bottom version pretty much matches how the final pic came out, but I scrapped the idea of it being a televised inauguration on the Koopa News Network since the picture was working just fine without any dialogue.
So, yep! Just a little bonus set of sketches. Sometimes I'm wary of showing earlier concepts for pics 'cuz I don't want to make people pine for "what could have been", like "I liked the throne concept more, you should have done that one!", but considering you guys keep the roof above my head, it's only fair to share everything I can with you. <3

Excellent to see. I like a lot of the concepts, but I think you went with the best option. It's certainly showing the most of her fighting spirit!

2019-06-06 07:27:49 +0000 UTCI like these behind-the-scenes visuals for the same reason that I enjoy looking at rejected concept art for video games or anime/cartoons. Because even though it may never have made it into the final product, it was likely still instrumental in narrowing down what that final product would be in the end. Only in this case bondage is involved, so...bonus I guess? Seriously though, thanks for posting these art drafts, it helps us better understand how your artistic process works. Also: "...Samus won't abandon the throne because LOL24/7 LOLbondage" (sounds legitimate)
