2024-10-28 04:26:39 +0000 UTCAll very true. Lots more competition out there these days for sure with waxing and waning funding to throw around. HBO still hits pretty hard though. Succession was a recent strong hit with a lot of people. In fact most rankings of top Tv shows usually show HBO with the most ranked series in any given time frame. But you are spot on. Lots and lots of competition out there and the bean counters on the upper floors never are as dedicated to excellence as they are $$$.

2024-10-28 03:20:02 +0000 UTCYes. All true. They used to have the knack and the ability to pick the best ones, though. That clearly isn’t the case anymore. The cancellations of Westworld’s final season and Winning Time’s run proves that in a way, whether viewership were lagging or not. They’re more into cost cutting now with new management. They used to be the gold standard, mold-breakers and trailblazers in TV programming. You could’ve been sure that Series creators of The Bear and Transparent would’ve come to them first and been shown on HBO. Now other providers are nabbing them.

2024-10-27 02:16:08 +0000 UTCThe Sopranos is Classic HBO, Boardwalk Empire, The Wire and SO many others. They still do very well. House of the Dragon is very good. John Oliver brings in tons of trophies for them every year. If anything its a lot more difficult these days with all the other choices viewers have now. Not the same environment as it was when Sopranos took over everyone's Tv every Sunday.

The only certainty is there’s a crime and a larger mystery to uncover. HBO used to be the king of original programming until it got wrecked by corporate mergers and streaming wars. But True Detective, Veep, and Silicon Valley were made during their “It’s not TV. It’s HBO” glory days.

2024-10-27 00:08:44 +0000 UTCTrue Detectives Season One Would be a GREAT season to react to. Lots of mystery there. Seasons 3 and 4 would also be pretty good. Each season is a totally different story so each seasons quality varies a bit more than the usual show but also makes it crazy easy to pick and chose which seasons to react to. Season one though made a HUGE splash and still has fans that talk about it. Season four was the most recent and had some serious spookiness to it.
