In reality, Walt had 1 hour to get the product and to the meet. Then unfigure another 30 min tops to get to the hospital. I believe in most instances you would make it in time. There is also the fact that if he misses the meet, everything he's done to this point might be in vain and he could end up with nothing. I think Walt thought he could make the drop amd get there in time.

As a former addict to several drugs in my youth (Never used needles ever though) I can say I've had plenty of times where I've told people not to do a drug but it's hard to be convincing when your sitting there doing it. Smoking meth and hard-core drugs are awful but I've seen firsthand that shooting up anything is another level and one people rarely come back from.

It’s the same way Tarantino shot the famous scene in Pulp Fiction when Mia overdoses and John Travolta gives her an adrenaline shot to the heart. The entire thing was just played in reverse.
