Kevin, it’s a comedy. And self sufficiency and gender norms are NORMAL traditional values. Not far right in AMERICA Yikes more than half this country is not Hitler following facists. Calling them recklessly that using this characters exaggerated behavior is tiring. It lost an election and some of us are here to escape this insane labeling of normal. Opinion ? Fine. Self sufficiency and male female relationships ARE NORMAL. Overwhelmingly so.

2024-11-26 22:03:10 +0000 UTCAmber - I liked your comments about Dwight's speech, but you may have missed what was happening. For context, his character has a very hard right/libertarian streak in him. He is big on self-sufficiency and traditional ways of living (one example may be the strict gender roles in his relationship with Angela). When he can't speak when he is called on to present, I think he got so nervous that he devolved into his base instincts. In his panic his lower brain took over. What came out of him was who he really is; a fascist at heart that only conforms to social norms to get through life. His mannerisms and phrases are taken from other fascists from history (Stalin, Mussolini, Hi++ler (especially him)). A couple of examples are: “Be worthy of this historical hour!” and “No revolution is worth anything unless it can defend itself!” (meaning, we will do horrible things to other people as long as we cloak it in the idea that we’re doing it for the greater good) He even gives the Nazi salute briefly. The crowd’s reaction to his speech is how the general population acted towards those other rulers from history. First, timid clapping. Then more and more applause as no one wants to be seen as weak or not being a good “salesman”. They eventually join in the us-vs.-them mentality, make enemies of the weak, and encourage (because they agree with the ideology or terror of punishment) their leader's despicable actions. Oh, no! I'm "that guy" that writes a book in the comments!

2024-11-26 01:18:03 +0000 UTCThis show has the BEST cold opens (the funny little parts before the theme song) . The only other shows that come close are Parks and Rec and 30 Rock (both of which are some of the funniest shows and were on around the same time as The Office).
