There’s an amazing chart I saw (don’t remember where) but tracks character colors with whether they are doing well or things are not so great. Marie loves purple. Deep down she doesn’t want Hank to go back to El Paso, and nether does Hank. So he is wearing purple in this episode. When Hank is in proper DEA form, he wears yellow or orange. That’s what Gomez wears in this episode, meaning he is more Hank than Hank, if that makes any sense.

If he voluntarily retires, Skyler would probably be even more suspicious. He’s tenured in a public school, so he calls out sick all the time, does nothing during class… that gets him a “talking to”…. Everything he does is calculated. (Except when his pride is attacked, he switches from logic to emotion, as in the next scene w Jesse)… The only way to get fired is to try to kiss the principal.
