2025-02-03 05:57:30 +0000 UTCShe got the quote wrong. At least it wasn't the way my grandma used to say it. "He doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground." Maw-maw had a lot of sayings! :-)

2025-01-30 20:56:12 +0000 UTCHell no. Ducky will always be the duck man. I also admittedly had a thing for James Spader. I always went after the cocky af guys just to see if they, ahem, live up to the hype. I physically cannot look at him today because his face was angelic, now gone.

2025-01-25 07:35:27 +0000 UTCWhy I stated from my own experience. For me, the most unpleasant people in my school days were 90% of the time of outcasts who had chips on their shoulders.

2025-01-25 00:29:39 +0000 UTCLife in the 80’s was as great as it looks. Best years of my youth. Technology was all new, but we still did so much without the tech. We spent more time face to face. We all got along better. I miss those days

2025-01-25 00:09:30 +0000 UTCI appreciate the fact that she doesn't dose off during her reactions like some other reactors that I have seen.

2025-01-24 18:46:16 +0000 UTCThen the DVDs did it. (Ten Commandments) is one example.

2025-01-24 11:34:15 +0000 UTCTwo of the guys I worked with at the video store played D&D every week with other friends of theirs. I remember one of them constantly talking about some people being “nerds” and “geeks” and I was like, “We ARE those nerds and geeks. Face it and embrace it, my friend.” D&D is harmless. Just a bunch of nerds having a good time and not hurting anyone. Amber, if you have never watched “Freaks and Geeks”, I highly recommend it. That would be an awesome show to watch here and on YouTube.

2025-01-24 11:34:00 +0000 UTCI worked in the video store business for nearly a decade (November 1990-August 2000). I got so many stories I could tell. ☺️ “Titanic” was one of the most successful double VHS tapes. “The Godfather”, “Lawrence of Arabia”, any movie over three hours.

2025-01-24 11:29:43 +0000 UTCAt least the drive-ins made a comeback because of Covid.

2025-01-24 11:27:54 +0000 UTCI just thought of another movie I think Amber would enjoy from the 80s: “Hiding Out” with Jon Cryer. And it has a great ice skating rink scene in it, too.

2025-01-24 11:27:18 +0000 UTCThe whole “jocks are bad, nerds are good” trope has been one we have seen for decades. Not all jocks are jerks and not all nerds are good. Bullies are like sharks. They don’t smell blood, but they smell weakness or what they perceive to be weakness. And, if they think they can get away with it, they will try. I hate violence. I hate war. I hate fighting. But once I finally started standing up for myself, I remember telling God, “Please forgive me” and I punched this guy in the mouth because he smacked me on the face in class. He hit me back harder and the class broke it up. I went home that day and the next day he came up to me and acted like he was going to hit me, then smiled and patted me on the back as if to say, “Respect”. And he never messed with me again. I feel bad for kids today with the Internet and social media. The cyber bullying. At least we knew who the creeps were. They didn’t hide online behind private profiles and avatars.

2025-01-24 11:25:57 +0000 UTCI'm Aussie. I grew up in the 80's. Loved going to the local skate rink. We played games and limbo. Was so much fun

2025-01-24 11:22:21 +0000 UTCI disagree, Tim. I grew up in the 1980s and was and still am a nerd. The difference is that now I have confidence. But back then, I was a painfully shy, awkward kid who got picked on mercilessly by other kids. And, yes, quite a few of them were jocks. In fact, one of them was a good friend of mine when we were younger, but sophomore year he changed. We didn’t become friends again until years later when he kind of apologized to me which I was grateful for and we’ve been friends ever since.

2025-01-24 11:17:35 +0000 UTCThis season only gets better and better! Btw regarding Cheech and Chong the first two movies were my favorite and are fairly harmless. Also have you ever considered watching Rocky horror picture show? Or phantom of the paradise? Or Anna and the Apocalypse? Some fun “horror” musicals …

2025-01-24 03:57:24 +0000 UTCTBH, the bullies in these movies/shows are kind of taken to the extreme. Back in the 80s at the Rink; this wouldn't happen. Employees and management would boot these kids so fast. Just like in school, it was never the jocks who were the bullies but often the troubled kids/gangbangers/outcasts that picked on us nerds. But I was from Southern Cali as a kid, sure its different elsewhere at the time.

2025-01-24 01:34:32 +0000 UTCOur skating rink had lock-ins! You went at 8 pm on Friday night and stayed until 8am the next morning! I could talk forever ! I had speed skates with racing wheels they were called ZINGERS you usually got different colors , my skates were black and my wheels were neon pink and purple…. Truly thought I was the COOLEST human alive with those things on!! Thank you Amber for appreciating Gen X lol

2025-01-24 01:31:42 +0000 UTCSadly by the mid-90s gang issues and juvenile crime closed most roller rinks, drive-in theaters and arcades across the country.

2025-01-24 00:41:36 +0000 UTCD&D in the 80's was vilified heavily by media and "concerned" parents. My group and I spent weeks trying to get parents and others who knew we played what it actually was. I always looked at it like what happens when a concerned parent is offended by a certain book and suddenly that book becomes evil incarnate.

2025-01-24 00:21:08 +0000 UTCDouble VHS was a movie that was so long it took 2 VHS tapes to watch the whole thing
