First Time Hearing Journey 'Wheel in the Sky'

Hello lovely.... You comment about drums setting the build up in Journey songs is spot on... They're almost a heart beating a rhythm. In this song, the drummer was Ansley Dunbar. In later albums, for a long while through the eighties, their drummer was Steve Smith, another phenomenal musician. I love watching you groove because it is such genuine affect the songs have on you.

2025-04-02 04:34:24 +0000 UTCThank you for the journey reaction. I have always enjoyed watching you react to music. I have seen several of your Journey reactions and I am so glad you like the group as well as many other bands that I grew up listening to. I may have missed it, but if you haven’t reacted to my favorite Journey song (“Stone in Love”) it is worth a listen. Glad you’re back on the tunes.🙂

2025-02-23 17:41:25 +0000 UTCGreetings from Hill 30, Amber! We are absolutely stoked that you decided to get back in the saddle and ride that range again! Whoever did your intro did a fantastic job, and the graphics and new photos, along with your end flashcard graphic, really set the tone for what people are in for. Your bold approach is unique, and that’s going to take you places. In the past, we let you know that you’re going to be a star, man. Daughter of a veteran who is so much happier now—Amber, Pops is looking down on ya, darlin’, and he’s letting you know, “I’m proud of you, Amber. You have the heart and mindset of a warrior. Never give up—you’ve got this, kiddo!” We all sat around the monitors watching your videos, smiling. We are truly blessed to know you as a person and a content creator. You’re family to us, and we hope to get that guest VJ spot on the show done soon. If Mom is reading this, “The Veterans of Hill 30 wish you the happiest of birthdays, and we hope you had a great day!” “Wheel in the Sky,” a GenX anthem. The magic that Journey has made will be timeless. Their songs, immortal. Their shows, things of legend. I’m so glad I had the brothers and sisters I did as we all went to concerts together in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Journey—when they came through town, we’d start camping out two weeks for tickets. Summer days and nights of my youth, this song was played. Our family is a bunch of choir boys and girls, so singing this song and playing guitar, learning every Journey chord and vocal note, was the goal. Thank you so much for doing this rock anthem that will forever remind me of how amazing it was to be a GenX kid. When you were rocking out, Amber, all you could see here last night at the office were seven GenX veterans headbanging with ya! We’re proud of ya. Welcome back to the saddle. Feels damn good, doesn’t it? Now, song requests, huh? Well, shit. You know us—we’re pretty well-seasoned, so we’ll leave ya with these great K-Tel and Time Life comp vinyl classics! (If you’re stumped on what to play, type “K-Tel and Time Life compilation records” into your search engine. You’ll find some great stuff there. I’m sure your Mom and Pops told ya about when we could order music and have it delivered to our front doors! 😁 Yet, I digress.) Like the Steppenwolf song “Magic Carpet Ride” says: Close your eyes, girl Look inside, girl Let the sound take you away Damn, that’s a timeless tune! We really want to start you off with one of our favorite bands, Alter Bridge. With your love of a vocalist who can do soaring vocals, we want to introduce you to: Myles Kennedy on lead vocals and rhythm guitar—his soaring voice and riffing are the heart of their sound. Mark Tremonti on lead guitar and backing vocals—the guy’s a riff machine and the main songwriter from day one. Brian Marshall on bass—laying down the low-end groove, he’s been solid since the start. Scott Phillips on drums—driving the rhythm with that powerhouse style he brought over from Creed. This song… when I was listening to it as I fired up the office here at Hill 30, this song is about you. This chorus—oh, this chorus—yeah, fits your warrior spirit of perseverance through adversity perfectly: “Let the wind carry you home Blackbird fly away May you never be broken again Beyond the suffering you’ve known I hope you find your way May you never be broken again” We just hope you give it a shot. We’re adding in the video we used on the show on Rumble, Amber. With a video background of Steven Wilson’s “The Raven That Refused to Sing,” “Blackbird” fits perfectly as the video’s narrator. Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU4APzJozYY Amber, we use a lot of fan-made videos on our show, and we also make videos when bands don’t have an official one. So that’s what we’re going to be sending you for requests. Case in point, from our YouTube channel: I’d taken two videos—their original release and Ian’s remake of the song in the acoustic version—combined them with some pretty nifty editing of how old and new blend together. (Hon, this song was released in 1998. And Big Wreck is one of those bands I categorized on the Rock and Metal Family Tree as “Quiet Heavy,” but gawldamn, every song this cat, Ian Thornley, writes is a motherfuckin’ banger! Sorry for the Paratrooper Polish, but fuck, man! This dude’s band and his solo music, Thornley, should be a part of every hard rocker and headbanger’s starter pack!) From the home of The Veterans of Hill 30, we give you Big Wreck, from the album …In Loving Memory Of from 1997: “Blown Wide Open.” Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSucOvWHsY0 Lastly, we’ll give you a song that will melt your heart, make you smile, and—well—have the tissue box ready ‘cause you’re gonna need it! Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie Van Halen, is making big waves in music after losing his Pops. Wolfgang is an amazing songwriter, riff king, and his vocals are just amazing—I mean, amazing. I could go into his history playing for Van Halen after Mark Anthony left the band, but I won’t—it’d take hours to write. 😁 But he started this project called Mammoth WVH. “Mammoth” was going to be Van Halen’s name, but the Brothers Van Halen rolled with their last name instead and attained rock and metal royalty status. Wolfgang, in honor of his Pops, Eddie, took on the Mammoth moniker and is the Prince of Rock of King Edward’s Kingdom of 5150! You’re going to want to hug your kids and hug your mom after this one, Amber. It’s a beautiful song. Amber, Wolfgang plays every instrument on “Distance,” which took the No. 1 Rock Chart spot in 2020 and was later nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Song in 2022. We give you 2020’s Mammoth WVH’s “Distance.” Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI3aPJkZmNU We have songs from every generation and genre to choose from, Amber. Let’s fuckin’ go! Glad to have ya back! Keep your horns held high and that volume knob cranked to 11! The Veterans of Hill 30

2025-02-23 06:28:42 +0000 UTCThis one takes me back. You should check out some of their classics only done by Arnel (Their singer after Steve) I saw them in concert with him as the lead singer and he is amazing. Rowan is right that Steve's voice is much fuller but Arnel still has great texture and can hit every note. I would do the live version of "Faithfully" with him singing it. He is Filipino and 3 of my 4 kids are half Filipino so I'm pretty ingrained in that culture lol. 2 things Filipinos know. Food and music lol. At these they are 2nd to none ( I also hope to see that Morrissette Amon version of Never Enough as she is Filipina as well. Thanks a million Amber.

2025-02-23 05:13:25 +0000 UTCI saw them with Arnel in 2011 in Cincinnati. Along with Foreigner and Night Ranger. It was such a blast.

2025-02-23 05:06:03 +0000 UTCIt has. I saw them along with Foreigner and Night Ranger at Riverbend in Cincinnati in 2011. Amazing show.

2025-02-23 05:04:37 +0000 UTCI don’t care what you’re listening to I’m just happy you’re reacting to music again 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 … ok so that being said there’s an earlier Journey song before Steve joined the band called “Look into the future” Greg the keyboard player sings and the drummer is Ansley Dunbar I think you’ll enjoy it … it’s definitely a different sound from them as well

2025-02-23 03:24:23 +0000 UTCThis song was actually written before Steve Perry was in the band. Originally sung live by a vocalist by the name of Robert Fleischman, who also wrote some songs with the band. It was said there were management problems with Robert, so he was fired from the band, although remained friendly with the band members. All due respect to Robert, but Steve Perry cannot be topped. The keyboards on this song are performed by Gregg Rolie, founding member and original Journey vocalist (and can be heard on some famous Santana tunes). He left the band to do his own thing in 1980 and was replaced by Jonathan Cain.

2025-02-23 02:34:27 +0000 UTCSteve Perry’s voice is truly one of a kind—his range, tone, and raw emotion make him stand out as one of the greatest rock vocalists. Inspired by Sam Cooke, one of the most legendary soul singers, Perry infused Journey’s ballads and anthems with that same heartfelt intensity, effortlessly blending power with deep emotion. I highly recommend these Sam Cooke songs: Somebody Ease My Troublin' Mind Meet Me at Mary’s Place Basin Street Blues Tennessee Waltz Twistin’ the Night Away That’s Where It’s At Having a Party Good Times Nothing Can Change This Love That’s Heaven To Me Cooke laid the foundation for soulful, emotional singing, and Perry carried that torch into the world of rock. Listen closely and see if you can hear Sam Cooke’s influence in Steve Perry’s voice—the smooth phrasing, the emotional delivery, and the effortless ability to turn a song into something deeply personal.

2025-02-23 00:00:12 +0000 UTCI do not recommend that video for a first time listen. I recommend a lyric video. The comic book video distracts from the song and lyrics.

2025-02-22 23:56:51 +0000 UTCGreat that you're doing music again. Rush 2112 is a must, and there's a graphic animation that goes along with it. I think you would enjoy the message. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5jwxrTqoEA

2025-02-22 23:49:33 +0000 UTCAmber, thank you for sharing that great tune from Journey. I'd loved to here your reaction to these Songs from Beyond The Well Trodden Path: don't give up by peter gabriel (featuring Kate Bush) - The longer 6:37 version on the original album, "SO" is much better because of the additional instrumental and vocals that trail off into a fade. Also, watching the youtube video where both of them appeared very was moving for me (although it is from "wayback" it was ahead of its time. This songs has often comforted me thru tough times). running up that hill by kate bush - it was her greatest hit and signature song. I understand it also makes an appearance in season 4 of the series Stranger Things in 2022.

2025-02-22 21:59:05 +0000 UTCHere's my George Michael list. I think you've reacted to a few already, just skip over those. I can send my whole list to you, just warning, it's large and covers a gigantic number of genres. Let me know and I'll get it to you. You can just pick what sounds good to you. George Michael: IMHO The best. A Different Corner(my personal fave song, ever, by any artist) Jesus To A Child (written about his partner that died from AIDS related complications, his entire album, Older, is dedicated to him) One More Try Fast Love (If possible watch video, it's amazing) Freedom 90 (Video is STUNNING! TOP models of 90's featured. It's an autobiographical song, watch his video for Faith first and at least one Wham! video to put the lyrics into better context) Monkey Praying For Time Spinning The Wheel, great jazzy number with a powerful message about HIV/AIDS. Somebody To Love (from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. He KILLED it. ) Outside (Personally love this one just for the sheer balls shown by making a song about his own arrest) White Light (Which to be honest, since his death, breaks my heart every single time, as does Last Christmas) Waiting For That Day Older Heal The Pain I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) his duet with Aretha Franklin. (He was a powerful duet partner. He knew how to let the others shine, from Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, the list is impressive.) ...ummm, basically his entire catalogue. LoL Wham!: George's band with his mate, Andrew Ridgely. Club Tropicana Young Guns (Go For It) Everything She Wants Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do) Where Did Your Heart Go Nothing Looks The Same In The Light The Edge Of Heaven Battlestations I'm Your Man (Extended Stimulation Remix, I love the cheeky bit they added in the car part) Blue

2025-02-22 21:37:40 +0000 UTCThis is off topic of Journey but I really do want you to hear Jamie Bower. VH1. Vecna. He does one hell of a cover of I Put A Spell On You. He also literally released a new one like 30 minutes ago. https://youtu.be/HV2UnWkBJmI?si=Go0EbLTUqJZkCvr0
