I was 13 when this video came out. It was on MTV all the time. It wasn’t inappropriate in anyway to us 80s kids who grew up on MTV. Perfectly normal.

2025-03-03 22:18:20 +0000 UTCYeah, 1984, what a year, man. This record was released January of my Freshman year in High School. It was all over MTV, all over the radio, Friday Night Videos, Public Access Metal Shows, you name it. When the video hit, holy shit, in goes the VCR tape and hit RE-CORD! I still have those old VHS tapes in my music room. 1984, no responsibilities, no bills, no mortgage, no car note, livin' under Mom and Dad's roof with zero rent, and being yelled at to, "TURN DOWN THAT DAMN RACKET, ERIC!" And I just cranked it to 11, baby! MUUUUUUUUUHAHAHAHA! I remember one day coming home from school. Pops was out on an OTR run and what do I hear crankin in the house, 1984. Oh, my sister's playing my record! Oh that's not happening. I dump my bike, run up to the front door, (screen door), and what is Mom doing. Amber, she's doing the boogy woogy with my brother (God Rest Him) in the kitchen to Hot for Teacher. How fricken cool is that? I come in the door, and just stand there. Watching the smile on my Mom's face...When the song was over, I asked my Mom, "Mom, you know what that song's about, dontchaknow?" "Oh jah, you think that's bad, we had songs about butt sex during the war, Eric!" "MAH! WHAT THE SHIT! "Oh shush it, boy! If you only knew about the songs we listened to, and those civil war leftovers considered it "The devil's music!" My Mom was a spitfire and a comedian. Man I miss that woman. Now, if I may....suggest a song from 1984 that will make you smile. I give you Metallica's "Creeping Death" from the Live Shit, Binge and Purge Boxset. The absolute heaviest version of this song ever recorded! Metallica Creeping Death: Live in Seattle '89! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNvktQLf_zs Rock the fuck out to this one, Metal Goddess! 2025-03-02 20:11:36 +0000 UTCWho cares what Genre Van Halen is, man. Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Hair Metal, they fell into those genres during the time of the rock/metal culture of the country. They were featured on MTV's Headbangers Ball and have been referenced as Metal Gods by artists and community. So yes. Van Halen is metal. It's the way you presented it, man. "This is a great song, but Van Halen isn't metal." Condefugginscending, man. Who fuckin cares, dude! Rock, Metal, who gives a shit. If you can bang your head, mosh, or pound booze or make babies to it, who cares! Same goes to you Candace, Van Halen in the 80s fell right into that same vein as Poison, Warrant, Europe, Winger, Whitesnake, White Lion, Enuff Z Nuff, etc...Big hair, big guitars, big arena sound, and um...all of the aforementioned bands...are....what? Exactly...Hair/Glam/Sex Metal. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a metal show to produce.

2025-03-01 18:55:56 +0000 UTC"Hot for Teacher" is an absolutely iconic music video of pure energy, attitude, and over-the-top fun that perfectly captures the wild, untamed essence of Van Halen during the David Lee Roth era. Eddie Van Halen’s shredding is mind-blowing, and Alex Van Halen’s drum intro is legendary. A perfect mix of musicianship and wild, rebellious spirit.

2025-03-01 13:11:10 +0000 UTCLove seeing you revisiting music. Van Halen fans have been divided between DLR and Hagar ever since 5150, when Hagar took over as lead singer. That said, I would love to see/hear more Van Hagar. The Song and official video for "Right Now" won video of the year way back in the day, and I'd also love to see you react to "Not Enough". Not Enough is my favorite Eddie guitar solo, which would probably upset a ton of his audience, but it's the most heartfelt solo I've ever heard of his.

2025-03-01 11:07:31 +0000 UTC“Hot For Teacher” is one of the most overplayed songs on classic rock radio yet for some reason every time I hear that intro which almost sounds like a motorcycle revving up I start rocking out. Who didn’t have a crush on their teacher back in the day? Most of them were like my Mom and they treated us as if we were their kids until high school. One teacher used to lean on my desk and I would smell her perfume from afar. She was quite flirtatious and a southern belle. Nothing happened, but I used to love going to class first period. 😉 I think we definitely see the clear distinction between the David Lee Roth Van Halen and Sammy Hagar Van Halen. Hagar never would have done this song. No disrespect to Sammy, but he never would do that.

2025-03-01 10:41:33 +0000 UTCGatekeeping? What I said has nothing to do with gatekeeping. You’re making something out of nothing here.

2025-03-01 01:37:12 +0000 UTCThis is a great song, but Van Halen isn't metal. If you *do* want to react to some 80's metal, check out Iron Maiden. I recommend Hallowed Be Thy name, Aces High, or Where Eagles Dare. Those songs kick ass.
