2025-03-23 05:35:36 +0000 UTCFirst off let me say that I love this song and it holds a very special place in my heart and on my playlist. It is unfortunate that most people miss the sentiment of the lyrics that Chrissie Hynde wrote in the song and the emotions she was filled with at the time. Basically she wrote it while dealing with some life changing events. She had a very strained relationship with Ray Davies of "The Kinks" and was three months pregnant with their daughter when she wrote the song. On June 14th 1982, they fired The Pretenders original bassist Pete Farndon for his drug issues then 2 days later on June 16th 1982 their original guitarist, James Honeyman-Scott died of a drug overdose. James had started working on the song before he died and Chrissy said she wrote it as a memorial to him. She said she had to get on with replacing not just her band mates but her two best friends. They started recording the song on July 20th 1982, and it was released on September 17th, 1982. The upbeat melody of the song disguises the heartfelt and very solemn lyrics. During Covid lockdown, Chrissie did an acoustic version for the BBC Radio 2 and the song has just as much relevance now as it did when she wrote it in July of 1982. This is the link to that incredible, beautiful performance! https://youtu.be/LOaCm91oy5M?si=1cTL4XRouOYOUAxf

2025-03-22 12:08:07 +0000 UTCAfter listening to your reaction to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Amber you owe it to your Gypsy soul to listen to “Aquarius “ from the musical Hair. You will really love the video version from the movie featuring Renn Woods as Aquarius. Classic from 1979. ♥️

2025-03-22 04:37:41 +0000 UTCThe Pretenders are a great band. This is one of their best tracks. I got one for you. “Mental Hopscotch” by Missing Persons. No Doubt missed an opportunity to cover that one. Gwen Stefani would have absolutely killed it.
