You are 100% correct about not needing a Gladiator 2. I’d cherish this movie and not go searching the other movie out no matter how tempting it might be.

2025-04-25 17:37:38 +0000 UTCAfter this movie I couldn't see Joaquin Phoenix without disliking him. It took me a while to watch another movie with him in it. He played his character so will.

2025-04-01 06:45:22 +0000 UTCFor another great Russell Crowe film you should check out Cinderealla Man...true story of boxer James Braddock. It's basically Rocky but not fiction.

2025-03-27 04:23:54 +0000 UTCWhy did they make a gladiator 2, we are all asking that. Totally not needed and not worth watching. Fun fact the director of gladiator directed the first alien movie

2025-03-27 03:29:11 +0000 UTCNow I'm craving an Amber reaction to Spartacus! I wonder if there's too much gore/nudity for her taste? Then again, Amber might enjoy the eye candy 😆 It really is a good series. Especially seasons one and four.

2025-03-26 23:21:34 +0000 UTCAppreciate the compliments. When I say it didn't make sense to me, it's not that I didn't understand the plot, I just think it didn't make sense for them to go there with the kid, if you know what I mean without spoilers. The plot decision felt forced. It also kinda messes with the dynamic of the first movie now knowing who Paul Mescals character was in the first Gladiator and the relationship dynamic. Just felt unnecessary, in my opinion of course. Denzel was great though, as usual.

2025-03-26 16:56:53 +0000 UTCWhat a great movie! I've always loved this one. The acting by all is excellent, especially Joaquin Pheonix and Russell Crowe. However, that score at times reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't remember ever thinking that before. At times i was waiting for Capt Jack to come swinging through lol!

2025-03-26 14:22:00 +0000 UTCBraveheart with Mel Gibson is a great one to check out. It tells the story about a Scottish warrior William Wallace who fought for his and his people's freedom from England. I'd give Gladiator a 10/10 but I like Braveheart even more. Unfortunately Gladiator II, in my opinion, is nowhere near as good as the first. Not even Denzel Washington could save it.

2025-03-26 09:26:37 +0000 UTCactually Mad Ice... cool name btw... the plot is what i liked. I followed it. I will admit... to those that adore the first one... this could have almost stood alone if not for the obvious battle scenes. I appreciate your feedback... im happy to explain some plot things...they did not want to tackle this without enough behind it. for discussions sake id say agree to disagree but know that as a movie WITHOUT the weight of the original... above average to me and as it went along it grew better and better. You cant argue with any of the performances.... great stuff from Denzel and the family connections were smart... the references were a bit hard to believe they could happen... but i got goosebumps seeing Maximus 's armor. perfection does not exist... ive been professionally making music videos for some nice talent... and im telling you... with just 5 or less minutes of action and decisions i ALWAYS find areas id call my dead areas... its hard to, start to finish make any work of art flawless. Hollywood does it once in a long while thanks to hundred milion dollar budgets and dozens and dozens of levels of critique. LOL. so maybe... actually creating content i am more forgiving for imperfection if the whole of the product succeeds.

2025-03-26 08:31:36 +0000 UTCAgreed. Gladiator II was so unnecessary and the "overlapping" plot was very much a stretch in my opinion. Denzel was the only good thing in the sequel.
The Mad Icelander
2025-03-26 07:07:16 +0000 UTCAgree to disagree personally. I thought Gladiator II was completely unecessary and the overlapping plot was a stretch imo. To each their own though.
The Mad Icelander
2025-03-26 07:05:10 +0000 UTCGreat movie. I personally wouldn't bother with Gladiator II. Outside of a good Denzel performance, I thought that movie was bad and made no sense plot wise.

2025-03-26 06:52:53 +0000 UTCG2 was AMAZING. Nothing can stand up to the original. Surprisingly... it was a solid movie with great writing. On its own... i liked it a lot. It has some surprisingly well written tie ins to the original. The original was a 100. the next one is a new story, but similar and some overlapping characters... i enjoyed it. a solid 90.... a bit too over the top battle scenes but the storyline was very game of thrones like in who do you trust backstabbing surprising allies. Hearing about the movie... i admit... i was like why bother... no chance. Rare follow up.

2025-03-26 05:35:34 +0000 UTCLoved seeing Tommy Flanagan "Cicero" and Connie Nielsen as 'Lucilla' (also in 'Nobody' with Bob 'Saul Goodman' Odenkirk. 'Nobody' is basically Saul Goodman meets John Wick meets Home Alone.) Which death was more gratifying: Commodus or Little Finger?? The Little Finger hate was a long 7 seasons, but Commodus built up hatred pretty darned quick!

2025-03-26 00:48:00 +0000 UTCGladiator is such a great movie. It has everything you could ask for. Russell Crowe was phenomenal & Joaquin Pheonix was brilliant as Commodus! Now Gladiator II fell way short, imo.

2025-03-25 23:42:34 +0000 UTCThe actor who played Proximo, Oliver Reed, died during the movie's filming Tricks were made to look like he was still on set, like using previously filmed stills/takes, CGI in one of them, a silhouette in the shadows and a mannequin being stabbed from behind for Proximo's death

2025-03-25 23:41:13 +0000 UTCSuch a great film...a modern day classic. Also, GOT trivia...the actor who played Joffrey based his performance on the one of Joaquin Phoenix as Commodus. I saw it in the theater and had been having dinner with friends and was late getting to the movie - it was so packed we had to sit on the front row - movies don't pack people in like that since the pandemic. I remember watching the battle scenes was like watching tennis because we were so close and the screen was so big lol.

2025-03-25 23:27:09 +0000 UTCI saw this in the theater and I continue watching it and it’s still just the best movie ever. Russell Crowe is the best actor. Another great movie with him is LA Confidential.

2025-03-25 22:49:28 +0000 UTCMarcus Aurelius is played by the first Dumbledore from harry potter, richard harris Commodus is someone you've seen before too, joaquin phoenix, who was in Signs, playing the brother of mel gibson's character The black gladiator, played by djimon hounsou, you've already seen in guardians of the galaxy (he played that purple eyed Kree who served Ronan) The merchant who sold Maximus and his fellow slaves, you've seen him in the mummy (he got killed by scarab beetles when searching for treasure)

2025-03-25 21:53:56 +0000 UTCOne of the Greatest Films of All Time and in my Top 10 Favorites!! There are so many things that make this film great, as with most things for me it is in the details! For example, after the battle when Commodus arrives and ask his Father to take his arm but Marcus Aurelius says he must leave and gets on his horse, his foot missed the stirrup. The only man to react and he saw it right away was Maximus! What seems as filler dialogue speaks volumes of the Man that Maximus is to his very soul! Amber, during the scene where Maximus was to be executed and he attacks the guards, you said Maximus called out the soldier's name but he actually called out "Praetorian". These men were actually the Praetorian Guard who were basically in modern terms the Secret Service, CIA, and FBI all rolled into one for high ranking officers in the Roman government. Great Gladiators even though they were slaves were treated very well and some did earn their freedom. The acting in this film is truly stellar, of course Russell Crowe, Oliver Reed, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, and Connie Nielsen but the two stand out performances for me are Richard Harris and Joaquin Phoenix! To make an audience hate a character as much as we hate Commodus, the actor has to put an amazing, chilling, and believable performance and Joaquin Phoenix did just that!! Ridley Scott put on a MasterClass directing this film! I could go on and on about this film but film watchers understand how great it is. One recommendation I would like to make is also Roman history about 251 years before the events of this film! Directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick, the 1960 truly outstanding EPIC "Spartacus" based on the true events of The Third Servile War! It stars an amazing cast with Kirk Douglas in the lead role, arguably the Greatest Actor of All Time Sir Laurence Olivier as Marcus Licinius Crassus, Charles Laughton as Senator Gracchus, Jean Simmons, Tony Curtis, and in his Oscar winning performance as Best Supporting Actor, Peter Ustinov as Lentulus Batiatus, the owner of the gladiatorial school that trains Spartacus and the other gladiators that escape from the school. The rest of the main cast is also filled with quite a few character actors that became famous in their own rights.

2025-03-25 21:15:05 +0000 UTCIf you enjoyed Gladiator, I highly recommend Spartacus (2010–2013). The story shares striking parallels with Gladiator, but Spartacus goes deeper into the brutal reality of gladiator life and is based on the actual historical figure of Spartacus.

2025-03-25 20:30:45 +0000 UTCGladiator is an amazing flick! Ridley Scott brought his A-game, and Russell Crowe as Maximus delivers one of the most powerful performances ever. Hands down, my favorite Russell Crowe performance. Are you not entertained? ‘Cause I sure as hell was!
