We Were Soldiers (2002) Full Length

Comments

This was the first big battle between U.S. forces and North Vietnam. It looked like there would be a massacre of U.S. troops, and they could not hide it now.

The scene where the enemy soldier threw a white phosphorus grenade and the soldier caught on fire. White phosphorus burns through steel and it is mainly used to mark a position for an airstrike if no color flares are available. It is also used for destroying captured weapons if they cannot be removed from the place of battle. the only thing to stop it from burning through a soldier that was hit by it was to have some copper sulfate available to smother it. Lacking that, the only alternative was to try to dig the white phosphorus out of a wound with a knife. Very nasty stuff.

You made it great, Amber. It’s a hard watch, for sure. This is my year to see this movie as well. What a story. ❤️

An infantryman had an average survival time of 90 seconds when dropped into direct combat in vietnam. My father survived but was later taken down by the cancer agent orange caused called Vietnam "the meat grinder" because he felt that's what the goverment fed them into. The fact that anyone survived is amazing. The statics are horrifying.

The scene in the very early morning that he left his family heading off to the war zone really hits home for me because I did that same thing during the Persian Gulf war when my unit was called up. I left my sleeping girlfriend at 3:30 in the morning and was successful in not waking her up. It was so difficult to walk out of that room and down the stairs and out the front door.

Ok I finally got time to finish this and I'm lookin a mess lol. This one just cuts. And then when u remember the end and being reminded of the fact that most of those men that came back were scorned at rather greeted. To go through what those men did to have to come back to that is gross. One reason this movie is so close to my heart is back in 2014 when I was stationed at Schofield Barracks, they would have these things on Veterans and Memorial day where a bunch of older combat vets would come to the auditorium and share stories with us then answer questions, and that year both Maj. Crandall (The ranking helicopter pilot) and Sgt. Savage (Who was stuck with just a few men alone all night till they could get to them and somehow not only survived but sustained no major injuries. Savage is truly an appropriate name for him. I'm glad u enjoyed this one Amber. I hope for Meorial Day you consider watching "Thank You For Your Service" from 2017. It's perfect for that holiday.

A movie I'd love to see you react to is "My Girl" with Jamie Lee Curtis and Macaulay Culkin.

Amber, the saddest part of the Vietnam war is that most of your young boys, 18 and older, were obliged by law to register for the draft, or go to jail so a lot of young men joined the service, and went to war because they had to not because they joined, and they wanted to in the ones that survived came home from Vietnam heated by the American people for fighting that war that they were forced to fight
