Thanks so much for reacting to this movie Amber. This has been a family favorite in our household since I was a kid. I remember going to the theater to watch the film with my parents when it came out in 1987. I was 7 years-old at the time and I was devastated when Ritchie died. Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie was my first crush, lol. Los Lobos sing all the Ritchie tracks on the soundtrack. I had the cassette and I would listen over and over on my Walkman. My husband's family lives in the Northern California town, Hollister, where a lot of the movie was filmed. I'm happy you enjoyed it!

On the episode called The Day the Music Died, Lou Diamond Phillips was talking about filming the coin toss scene while Valens’ sisters were on the set. One of them broke down and ran to him crying Richie please don’t go.
