2025-07-28 02:29:55 +0000 UTCI was never a huge country music fan, but certain artists just transcend the genre. Loretta Lynn was one of them. She released her first album just 8 years before I was born, and was 39 when I was born, so I got to enjoy her singing and talent for a full half century before she passed away. It wasn't just her having a good voice and being able to carry a catchy tune. When you listen to the lyrics she wrote, she was a driving force behind women's liberation, as well. She never shied away from her thoughts and feelings. Everyone knew just where she stood on anything. And yet, with all that success, she was just so relatable and down-to-earth. She epitomized the "girl-next-door." I have never met a single person who had anything negative to say about her. Just a class of her own.

I recently bought the audiobook of Coal Miners Daughter and Sissy Spacik is the reader. Not sure what you call them, anyway was so excited hear her voice! She spent a lot of time with Loretta preparing for the movie. She nails Loretta's movements and her voice is very similar. She was phenomenal. Loretta is the one who chose Sissy to play her. Sissy wasn't interested in doing the movie and went to tell her personally and she saw Loretta and said oh yeah! Sissy tells a great story about it. So excited you you have reacted to it! Yes, Loretta is a huge deal, in all genres of music. Very influential to other artists, even in Rock music! Jack White of the White Stripes made her a rock star. They made an album together and won a couple of Grammies. Check out their rocking duet "Portland Oregon". Loretta had written it years before and she and Jack recorded it together.

How the heck did I miss that???" then went hunting around trying to find it--always wanted to watch it, just hadn't yet. THEN, I heard you say 'It's Saturday'...ROFL. Damn this early access!! It's messin with my brain! :-) While not into country...how can you NOT like Loretta??? Just ask Detroit rocker Jack White--who cut an album with her. Since I haven't seen the movie yet (it's only Thursday out here on the east coast LOL,) I don't know if her song 'Fist City' came up at all. Either way, I think it's a MUST...especially since you've already done 'You Ain't Woman Enough to Take My Man'.: https://youtu.be/YgylOni0JSI?si=MEigrh-IfFRdFMGy I saw a clip of her daughters (at least two of--not sure how many she has) doing a show and they did Fist City, then talked about the circumstances that led to this song, the above song, and probably more: the woman driving their school bus when they were young told them that she was steppin' out with their dad. So...they told momma...and the rest is history. One of her daughters commented to the crowd "Momma was a SCRAPPER!" Love it....love Fist City, pretty sure you will to...I mean, It's Loretta, right??
