ROCKETMAN (2019) Full Length

Comments

Amber about Elton being gay. You have to remember when He hit it big there was no internet, no MTV yet. No music videos. It was him on the radio, maybe a talk show and of course if you saw him in concert you would see the extravagent outfits. Things were different, not evereybody was tuned in to everybody else. also I know you have seen Mama Mia now. You must see the sequel/prequel, "Mama Mia here we go again". I know people are recommending "Across the Universe". I would add "Yesterday" another film based on Beatles songs. Oh yeah I forgot to mention amovie called "Almost Famous" about a rock band touring and a young writer trying to interview them. (Hint: the song Tiny Dancer is in it)

Tarpon Egerton (Elton) was the gorilla in Sing! Part of the reason he was chosen to play Elton.

Amber, you said you like musicals and just did some Beatles reactions so Across The Universe just seems like a logical next pick. It's a musical but not a bio pic. It tells a story using Beatles songs

That was great! Robb Stark can sing to me anytime!! 🥵🥵 I don’t think I’ve ever heard her so gitty watching a movie. 40:19 It was as if Amber was witnessing the birth of “Your Song”.

Ryan Garcia

I learned to play the piano by ear but found playing with my hands works a lot better.

Amber, Elton was friends with Liberace, and they would compete for most outrageous outfits. Another suggestion: Behind the Candelabra. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. And nobody knew Liberace was gay either? 😆

That was a great movie--hope you went and hugged the kids after!! Elton was played by Taron Egerton. He starred in the "Kingsman" series--at least the first two, the third being a prequel. You'd enjoy those, I think--especially the second one, since your boy Elton John plays himself in the move--pretty much most of it. The second Kingsman came out 2 years before Rocketman, so I find it interesting that Egerton wound up playing Elton. I'm curious to hear the story of how that choice came about. The "quid" is to the British pound what the the "buck" is to the American dollar...just a slang term. I think it's funny how "certain words" don't carry the same weight in England as they do here in the States--and we all know which words those are! Elton's parents were for sure horrible, and that includes his step-father. At least his dear ol' Nan seemed to care about him! "Rob Stark" was pretty horrible, too! Although...it was interesting to hear his natural Scottish accent, rather than the English one we hear in GOT--not that it was bad, mind you! People not figuring Elton was gay after all the flamboyant outfits reminds me of when Rob Halford, the lead singer of Judas Priest, came out. People were stunned (maybe some weren't) but then thinking back they realized he always wore tight leather and chains then said "how did we miss that??" I'll have to second The Who's "Tommy". I haven't seen it in years, but it was A WILD RIDE! Ann Margaret was also in that, who I last saw in Grumpy/ier Old Men. The movie is from 1975 and is based on the 1969 album of the same name.

It is never too late to learn an instrument

You have got to be the sweetest person that I have never met.

Elton once was piano player for Patti LaBelle and the Hollies. You recognized Richard Madden!! Robb Stark from GOT. Well done!

Richard C

I’m going to check out Black Mirror. You have me intrigued. 😁

Musicals: ‘Across the Universe’ (Beatles Music), ‘Chicago’, ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’, ‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘Tik Tik Boom’ (but maybe you’d have to know some of Jonathan Larsons work, like Rent, beforehand)

Patty Estrada

You should watch The Who's musical called Tommy... Elton John has a part in it along with Tina turner, Eric clapton and others.

Jeff Anderson

The mom is played by Bryce Dallas Howard…if you’ve ever seen The Help, you’ve seen her. Or if you’ve ever seen The Twilight Saga, she played Victoria starting with Eclipse. She’s director Ron Howard’s daughter.

Patty Estrada

Every week I hope to see that we’re going to get ‘Across the Univese’. She’ll absolutely go crazy for it!!!

Ryan Garcia

I have suggestions for musicals, Tommy, The Wall, and the original 1973 Jesus Christ Superstar ,Across the Universe and La Boheme

Elizabeth Franco

The mom is played by Bryce Dallas Howard

Elizabeth Franco

Seen him twice at The Pontiac Silverdome (where the Detroit Lions used to play) in Mich., seen a LOT of concerts there. It's torn down now. Last time I seen him was him & Billy Joel together. There's a video of him performing "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding".....Live.

Dale Sands

Amber you should checkout the other Rocketman movie from 1997. It is a hilarious comedy.

Jeffrey Losey

The woman playing Elton’s mother is Bryce Dallas Howard. She is the daughter of Ron Howard, “Opie” from the Andy Griffith show.

Jan A

This is a good one, loving all the music/band movies you’re reacting to! PLEASE consider reacting to Across the Universe, ( an all Beatles musical) I think you would LOVE it!

Amanda Murphy

Love this movie. Love all things Elton! A true genius in music. Recommending again: What’s Love Got to do With It. The Tina Turner story. Your fave actors are in it. 😁

Richard C

I HIGHLY recommend a movie called Yesterday. It’s about a man who wakes up in an alternate reality where the Beatles don’t exist as a band, so he starts “writing” their songs. It’s got the feels in all the right musical places like this one does.
