I'm sure. Arthur had recently found Dex's identity and address. And, on the kill table, before Dex finished Arthur off, but after Dex insisted to Arthur that he is good for his family, Arthur said, "It's already over."

I'm still seeing Amber crying into her blanket after the death of Rita. My suggestion is that you toss a comedy or two in-between starting season 5 of Dexter. My suggestion is Adam Sandler's The Waterboy and/or Eddie Murphy's Coming to America. Give yourself a good laugh before heading back to Miami Metro Homicide Department. Just a thought...

He made MANY mistakes, but I believe that Dexter didn’t need to live without love. Lumen/Hannah are examples that he can have relationships/love in DARK TIMES. Harry was treating him like he was a Loveless/Rabid Pitbull (or better trained German Shepherd), and THAT is dehumanizing. So I don’t really blame Dexter, since he never developed the will to suppress his need… Which makes losing Rita that much worse for me. I believe he would have put down the scalpel for her/Harrison/Cody/Aster/etc 💁!?

SAME, mostly because I always believed Rita was making Dexter into a real man. Not some utility for a jaded police officer mad about the 1, 2 or more that got away 👀. Harry did the best he could do, but also he had no hope for Dexter having emotions/love/human-traits/etc…

One of the best seasons and ending to Dexter of the series, it’s tragic. Dexter saved Arthur instead of letting him jump. Dexter put his own feelings in front of his family and he paid for it in the worst way. Rita was amazing but this is what the show does, brings you back to reality in the biggest gut punch. Thanks Amber for keeping with it!

NOW YOU GOT ME GOIN 😭 I watched this when it premiered, and....it broke the internet, its so monumental, and yes the show continues on but the show has lacked thst heart & kindness of Rita since this episode in my opinion. Its Such a drastic turn, honestly it hits so much harder for me today than it did when it was new when I was 19, granted I've NEVER lost anyone like that, but being in my 30s & having a good morning/day/evening where it seems run of the mill, then you get the news that someone you love who's well-being being anything less than "fine" is off your radar is gone, Dexter's coming home & feeling like hes feeling & then hearing Harrison cry after finding Rita's phone & purse at home is exactly how that kind of heartbreaking news feels for me, that was done annoyingly matticulously well

This ending is tough, but it sets up Dexter's pain and story in the next season which is my favorite. I have had to deal with my fair share of hard hitting grief and Dexter season 5 does a great job exploring it.

Such a genuine reaction! ❤️ i felt the same way the first time i watched this season. The actress that played Rita has done multiple interviews talking about this and she actually didn’t know it was going to happen this way until a couple days before they filmed this episode and she was PISSED. She was devastated by the decision to kill off her character and felt betrayed. She also said that she felt they began to mess up her character (with decisions for certain story lines) after season 2. There are many fans that boycotted the show after this season aired. I was also upset….however, the show must go on…and it does! And it stays excellent moving forward. (And if we’re being fair, the Dexter novels are actually WAY darker than the show, so these decisions are still actually pretty toned down in comparison). Anyway, I’m sorry you were sad. ☹️ The show still keeps rolling and stays excellent, for what it’s worth! 🙂

We all loved Rita and cried when she was killed by Trinity. Don't feel alone in your grief. And it's hard to say, but Dexter was entirely to blame. He was selfish. He played with the Devil by letting Trinity live for so long. In the end, Harry was always right.

Aww, Amber. I tried to wipe your tears with my thumb but it was just my screen. And then I started crying. Again. Was the second time I have watched this. I'm right there with you. It was such a gut punch, just when you thought it was a happy ending for Dex and his fam. Still, looking forward to watching season 5 with you!

Julie Benz will always be one of my favorite Actresses. Whether it's Dexter or playing a vicious vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or playing human/vampire in Angel. She' s amazing. Your tears are quite justified. Take a break, then it's on to the Barrel Girls!!

Most people think this was a great ending, but I disagree, and I've watched the whole show at least 4 times. Dexter had too many opportunities to kill Trinity (the first bludgeoning, when Dexter puts the deer Arthur hit out of its misery, Arthur's attempted suicide, Thanksgiving, in the back of Arthur's van) and let them all go, costing Rita her life. That is despite the fact that he realized the danger they were in if Trinity was loose, as we know from what Harry tells him/what he thinks subconsciously!
