The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2004)

I will always say - Sean Astin should have gotten an Oscar for Sam imo. He gave Sam the heart and soul and even Peter Jackson said it peed him off, Sean not getting one too. ''My friends, you bow to no-one.'' will never not get me! This, for me, modern day cinema wise, was amazing to watch in the cinema. Everyone stood and cheered throughout the credits! I love the books too, there's so much more detail, but this movie trilogy? Will forever stay in my heart!

2025-10-01 14:08:06 +0000 UTCI’m 62 and my sister read my brother and I the books when I was 10. I reread them in high school and have seen the three movies at least 10 times. It’s an absolutely perfect rendition of the books Don’t feel bad about being emotional…I cry every time😎

2025-09-30 05:29:44 +0000 UTCCan you imagine how Tolkiens mind worked when he wrote this, pure genius. I recommend Amber you read the book with the knowledge of being able to put faces to the caricatures👀

2025-09-29 20:24:21 +0000 UTCThere is a series on Amazon called The Rings of Power. It an adaptation of Tolkien's book The Silmarillion. It tells the story of the forging of the rings and the beginning of Middle Earth. You see a young Galadriel, Elrond, Isildur and the rise of Sauron. Season 3 is in production now and expected to release next year featuring the war between the elves and Sauron. In the throne room of Gondor, the king's white throne sits atop the stairs. Denethor is not allowed to sit there since he is just the steward. Ruling until a new king is crowned. He sits in a lesser black chair at the base of the stairs to the kings throne. As Faramir rides off to retake Osgiliath, he mentions they are the Men of Numenor. In the Rings of Power, you see the island kingdom of Numenor. In the making of these movies, WETA developed CGI software to duplicate characters. They had some 200 horsemen that they turned into 6 thousand.

2025-09-28 21:24:33 +0000 UTCEowyn was able to kill the witch king, because when Merry stabbed him back of the knee, that opened him up to be killed by her. The sword that Merry had was very ancient, and was made by the elves, specifically for combat with beings like that. You notice the witch king instantly felt it when Merry stabbed him. The story of how the hobbits got those swords and their history is told in the books, but had to be left out of the movies, so they just showed Aragorn giving them the swords in the Fellowship of the Ring. Without Merry's help, Eowyn would have been killed. Both Merry and Eowyn were severely injured by touching the witch king. Notice after the witch king died, Eowyn could not stand up, only crawl. Tidbit: when Eowyn was in the houses of healing after the battle she had been severely stunned by the events, and there were black spirals around her arm that held her sword she killed the witch king with. Liv Tyler, who played Arwen, sang the song that is playing during that scene.

2025-09-28 05:03:40 +0000 UTC4:00 "It had such a power over both of them so quickly." It's been over 2,400 years since Isildur lost the Ring. At this point it's desperate to get back to its master Sauron. It's got it's seduction/corruption power turned up to 11 to snare a wearer to give it mobility again. 6:50 Gollum never had good intentions for anyone. It's only when Sméagol's personality is in control that there is ANY hope for good intentions, and only because Frodo made an effort with him. Unfortunately at this stage, Gollum has convinced Sméagol that Frodo betrayed him. "Good Sméagol, always helps, yesss!" And what did good Sméagol get for his efforts? Nasty thieving hobbitses deserve what they get! (Gollum/Sméagol's view, not mine.) Sméagol is in charge during this scene; both his voice and his facial expression are darker/more cruel with Gollum in charge. 18:40 The looks Gandalf and Pippin exchanged at Isengard are probably IN PART due to Pippin's carelessness in Moria. Gandalf may not fully trust Pippin with dangerous things, and Pippin feels bad about that. (Remember, that was the first time Gandalf swore "Fool of a Took!") But he also wonders whether the palantír may have affected Pippin in any way. 30:40 As you see, Gandalf was right to worry about Pippin. Palantíri don't have the strong "pull" of the Ring, but they are connected to Sauron since he has one and is "on the network." Sauron assumed that Pippin was the hobbit carrying the Ring; he didn't ask directly about Frodo. 39:10 Arwen's vision: Children are a form of immortality. Elrond kinda forgot that, he could only see Arwen's eventual death. Elrond's kin are half-elves and can literally choose an eleven destiny (immortality in the West) or a mortal life. At this point, Arwen chose a mortal life; no ship for her. Her hands were cold because her decision has made her mortal -- her immortality has left her body. 47:00 Mithrandir is the Elvish (Sindarin) name for Gandalf, meaning "Grey Pilgrim" or "Grey Wanderer." This name is used by the Elves and in Gondor, reflecting his role as a wise and guiding figure. Since he's no longer Gandalf the Grey, that name is probably no longer appropriate. 48:00 Not a pointless trip. True, Denethor is worse than useless, but this is where one of the next couple of major battles will take place. 55:43 Minas Morgul (Tower of Black Arts) is that green-glowing fortress that Gollun called the Dead City. It was once a fortress of Gondor called Minas Ithil (Tower of the Moon.) As the easternmost fortification in the Kingdom of Gondor, Minas Ithil safeguarded the eastern borders of the realm and protected the capital Osgiliath from the forces of Mordor during the early part of the Third Age. As Gondor's power weakened, it was then taken by the forces of Mordor and used as a base to attack Gondor and in the process, decayed into the dark fortress and was renamed as a result. Under the control of the Ringwraiths it became a city of horror, where the minds of living men would run to madness if they remained too long. 1:04:40 The men at Osgiliad aren't expecting any help -- they are the outer defense for Minas Tirith in that direction. They don't GET help, they ARE THE help.

2025-09-28 05:00:04 +0000 UTC1:06:00 This is one of my favorite scenes of the movie -- the beacons being lit in sequence. As one beacon is seen by the next watcher, the next beacon is lit. So the message a distance equal to three days' hard ride at the speed of light, delayed only by the few seconds it takes to light each beacon. The beacons north of the White Mountains from Minas Tirith to Rohan were on the hills Amon Dîn, Eilenach, Nardol, Erelas, Min-Rimmon, Calenhad and Halifirien with a distance of 20 to 30 miles between each beacon. 1:17:15 Denethor isn't just grumpy and mean. He's descending into madness. 1:19:47 The Nazgul (including the Witch-King of Andor) are not riding dragons, per se. The books call them "fell beasts" -- "fell" in this context is an archaic English word meaning "dreadful, terrible." They are supposed to resemble monstrous carrion birds more than anything, larger than the giant eagles we've seen before. Their body was plain and naked, lacking any quills or feathers. They had a long neck as well as vast pinions consisting of a web-like "hide between horned fingers". They could fly faster than the wind. Fell beasts also gave off a stench. In battle they swooped upon prey with their feet to drop foes from the sky, crushed enemies under their sheer weight, and used their vast wings to blow foul gusts of wind. They were believed to have been survivors of some previous geological age, like dinosaurs, but by the time of this movie only a single brood survived. 1:29:00 Don't blame Frodo for treating Sam badly. The Ring isn't putting words into his mouth, but the long term effects of carrying it have twisted and weakened his mind. 1:31:30 "How many horses were used?" In Return of the King, over 6,000 horses of Rohan will charge into the body of the dark army, a scene created by filming 250 horses for real, and then bulging their numbers with motion-captured CGI steeds. 1:55:40 Thousands of years ago when Gondor was founded, Isildur called on the King of the Mountains to swear allegiance to him, which he did. However, when Sauron later attacked Gondor in S.A. 3429 and Isildur called on the Men of the Mountains to honor their oath, they refused. Isildur then cursed them and their king, proclaiming that they would have no rest until the oath was fulfilled. They died with that curse on them, unable to rest. Aragorn gives them a way to end their eternal torment. 2:01:05 "Why does [Denethor] look familiar?" John Noble has over 70 acting credits, including some voice work for video games. I don't know where you are most likely to have seen him (he wasn't in Game of Thrones, but he was in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) but there have been many opportunities. 2:09:50 "Frodo's compassion for Dobby led him to this"...2:12:10 "He landed right where Dobby threw the bread"...2:10:10 "Dobby's taunting him." LOL. Someone give Gollum a sock and set him free. 2:13:06 This is no ordinary giant spider. This is Shelob. Ungoliant (not part of this story, in the movies or the books) came from the darkness outside the world ages ago; or she may have been one of the Maiar corrupted by Melkor after the creation of the world. Either way, she was a spirit who took the form of a great spider. Shelob is the last of Ungoliant's descendants. She's not a servant of Sauron but he's aware of her and finds her to be a useful guard of the stair, so he leaves her alone.

2025-09-28 04:58:45 +0000 UTC2:30:00 Denethor is literally insane at this point. He's not responsible for his actions. He'd be institutionalized if there were such a thing in Middle-Earth. 2:46:40 "She can't go up against a Nazgul, though." She's the only one on the battlefield that CAN. It's probably due to some ancient enchantment that he can't be killed by any man, and you have to be VERY careful how you word those. Kind of like a genie granting you a wish: "I wish I could meet Jesus." So the genie kills you. 2:53:40 "I need to stop crying." No, you don't. Feel your feels. 3:18:00 This guy is the Mouth of Sauron. He was one of Sauron's most devoted servants, serving as his emissary and possibly as Questioner. His original name was lost to history, forgotten even by himself. 3:32:00 Back in the 70's we had bumper stickers that read "Frodo gave his finger for you." 3:35:00 "Looks like it's screaming in pain." The Ring held a part of Sauron's soul. It was just destroyed. That's GOTTA hurt. 3:37:00 The destruction of the Ring released its stored power. It must have been like a small atomic bomb going off. That's likely what caused the major eruption of Mount Doom. As for the collapse of the tower, the earth splitting and so forth, that was probably the rest of Sauron's power, in his body and in the Eye, begin released at the same time as he "died." 3:42:10 Aragorn finally had a chance to wash and comb his hair. Sam carrying Frodo up Mount Doom...all of Gondor kneeling to the hobbits...Bilbo and Frodo sailing off to the undying lands...Sam and Rosie's kids...I'm not crying, *you're* crying. Aragorn and Arwen's marriage lasted 122 years. They had one son, Eldarion ("Son of the Eldar".) He was born the year after Sauron's defeat, and had a long youth much like an Elf, having the appearance of a 20-year-old until he was nearly 60. They also had an unspecified number of daughters, all of whom remain unnamed. It seems that Eldarion was the only child with a significant enough role in Middle-earth's history for Tolkien to mention by name.

2025-09-28 04:58:39 +0000 UTCWhen the hobbits are back in the Shire, and they are having a drink in the Green Dragon, they are looking at each other, thinking about what they had done, while no one else in the Shire realizes what they had done and experienced, is what a lot of veterans of the wars feel, after they return home. If Sam can fight a giant spider and defeat it, he realized he had ample courage to ask Rosie to marry him! At the end, that is Sean Astin's real daughter coming out and running to him.

2025-09-28 04:55:34 +0000 UTCSamwise is the Neville Longbottom of this story. Hes an integral player in the outcome and could likely have been the hero if the main character had not existed.

2025-09-28 00:26:56 +0000 UTCHey there, Amber, We left a nice comment on your video and it's nice to say hi to your mom, Pam. What a nice lady she is. She did good with you, kid. We have a question. After this reaction. Have you thought about getting into motivational speaking and using your story of that prior life as a way to help others, both women and men, heal from systemic abuse in a relationship? We think you'd do wonderful in that arena. Just a thought. Take care now. - The Veterans of Hill 30

2025-09-28 00:10:11 +0000 UTCI think the first movie I remember seeing the dad (that burns and falls off the tower) was in the movie Shutter (2008), which is one of the creepiest horror movies I think I've ever seen. I would never watch it again on my own, but I would love to see you react to that one! ...Actually, I looked it up on IMDB, and I think I'm getting my 2008 content mixed up. Lol. He was in the show "Fringe," which I remembered as well, but his co-star, Joshua Jackson, was the main character in Shutter. John Noble is in a lot of stuff though. I think he was Morland Holmes in Elementary, which is also a phenomenal take on Sherlock Holmes that I would recommend watching.

2025-09-28 00:03:37 +0000 UTCSo glad you did a rewatch on these-my ultimate favorite movie series since I was 9 and 10 years old and saw them in theaters (then read the books). I watch them at least once a year or so, and read the books almost as often. Can I encourage you to start collecting the swords now? I'm so happy to support you and your kiddos, even in a small way-is it weird to say it's like watching movies with a friend?
