Addams Family (1991) Full Length

Comments

I’m very fond of this movie but the sequel is one of the best comedies of the 90’s. Awesome script so dense with good jokes it could stand alongside movies like Airplane

I like Bobby Fish… but he’s got this fish gimmick

The original Gomez (from the old t.v. show) was John Astin. Who married Patty Duke (an Oscar winning actress for the real-life movie The Miracle Worker, based on Helen Keller's life). A real tear-jerker. Helen was blind, deaf & couldn't speak. Anne Bancroft played her "teacher". Patty had a son before they got married & John adopted him. His name now is Sean Astin, who later became Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings. Sean's real dad's name is Michael Tell.

I find this movie to be fun and witty. I really enjoyed the sequel too, but its a Thanksgiving movie, not a Spooktober one. I hope you will go on to do the Wednesday series eventually too. RIP Raul Julia 💖🪦Gotta love Thing 🖐️Tully Alford, that was trying to scam Gomez, was on the TV Series Cheers. He played Nick Tortelli, Carla's sleazeball x-husband. That's where I remember him best from.

Steven Costa

this is a gem of a movie. but Amber you gotta check out Adams family values its the sequel

If you love spoof movies you should definitely watch extreme movie 2008, it’s hilarious

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' is my favorite TV show of all time! I've binged it about 7 times. So, are you a 'Spuffy' , 'Bangel', or (God save us) "Biley'?

Raymond Ohlsen

Have you ever seen Nightmare Before Christmas? That seems like it would be right up your alley

The actress that played Wednesday is the movies, Christina Ricci, is the same actress that played Ms. Thornhill the redhead teacher in the Wednesday series. She's older, with a red hair, and bangs covering her very recognizable forehead lol(I almost didn't recognize her in the first when I first watched, partially because of the glasses, but mainly because of the bangs 😄). I loved that the Wednesday series brought her onto tbe show, especially considering how insanely popular and famous her portrayal that although technically not the first on-screen Wednesday portrayal(The Addams Family were originally one-panel cartoons created by Charles Addams in The New Yorker newspaper from 1938-1988. The pouring hot oil on the singing carolers from.the top of the mansion in the beginning is actually right from one of the newspaper cartoons lol. The characters didn't even have names until the famous 1964 TV series, with the famous theme song with the fun lyrics and snaps), Christina Ricci's portrayal of Wednesday being the snarky, deadpanned uber morbid child and is considered the standard of what the character is that we know today, and the inspiration of the characterization of Jenna Ortega's , but even more hostile teenage version as Jenna's is our first teen, which I think she's nailed. When most people think of Wednesday, it's Christina Ricci they're thinking of. Christina Ricci also probably part of the cause that sparked interest/attraction to goth girls from Millennials in the 90s at a young age lol... So, originally, Gordon wasn't meant to turn out being the REAL Fester. It was scripted for him tonsillitis be the dame Fester, but at the end the family still loves and accept him as family regardless, but the cast wanted them to make him Fester, so they sent 10 year old Christina Ricci to advocate to Barry Sonnenfield and the writer, knowing that she could articulate their case touching the ending, and gave what called am impassioned plea and emotionally satisfying on how Gomez being reunited with his brother that he never gave up on finding, and Fester reunited with his family again, and some imposter 🖤. Although I really appreciate what they were going for in the original intended ending though, I absolutely love that the cast felt so strongly ablut wanting Fester to be the REAL Fester... And yes, many of us, myself included, especially as adults, have said that if it isn't that Gomez & Morticia love, then I don't want it 😆. So a thing about Gomez, if you haven't noticed, is that everytime Morticia speaks French it immediatelly sparks some romantic/sexual from him. In the original, black & white tv series, everytime she's spoke French, it was like an auto passion trigger for him from her, and he'd do his famous kisses Morticia up and down her arm. So, in the movie, everytime she speaks French he take a moment with her, usually to kiss her hand, or like in the auction after she did her first bid, and called him, "Mon sauvage"("My Savage" is 🔥), you hear Gomez's voice shriek high when aftewards, he put in his next bid because of how turned on and excited he got just from her calling him My Savage kn French 😆(go back and checm out Fester's reaction in the background lol). I love that he speaks Spanish to her(he calls her "Cara mia" aka "My dear/darling", which is Italian, and he also calls her Tish in English as a nickname, which is cute considering that it makes you forget that her name is purposely connected to the word mortuary/morgue lol, but he speaks fluent Spanish and from an aristocrat family), and she speaks French to him. (I also love that Gomez in the Wednesday series gives his daughter Wednesday, a whole bunch of outlandishly dark, pet names lol)... You should check out this channel on YouTube called Cinema Therapy, where two best friends, a therapist and a filmmaker, watch and discuss movies from both a psychological perspective as well as a filmmaking perspective. It's great. They have great episodes discussing regarding different characters and movies, have a few videos giving like Top 10 for fiction, healthy movie couples or something, but they have one full video they did before those, specifically about just The Love and Marriage of Gomez & Morticia called, "7 Tips From The Addams Family To Keep Your Marriage Alive"(you'd have to wait until after watching the second film, Addams Family Values, for spoiler), and honestly I actually started casually playing it around couples for fun, especially married people, to try and push the incentive to help in case there are areas that need worked on or figured out, without them knowing that it's my intentions instead of not just casually watching a YouTube video lol, because although I've never been married, even I found it very useful to hear the marriage advice and see the examples of what that looks like demonstrated from Gomez & Morticia in the Addams Family films(of course in their own Gomez & Morticia way lol) and other people probably need to that visualization and understand of it as well. All.and all, it's a geesr channel I've read that they're actually often considered the most healthy couple/marriage in fiction by psychologists, so if there's ever a couple to ever stan/idiolize, it's Gomez & Morticia Addams 🖤... They were supposed to make a 3rd Addams Family film, but unfortunately, Raul Julia(Gomez) passed away from a stroke while he was battling stomach cancer. Julia, being a highly respect dramatic & stage actor, said that playing Gomez Addams was his favorite role. The director said that both he and Gomez had a shared total joy of life, and that he embraced the character by making it his own outlandish portrayal of such a passionate and romantic character. He didn't expect it to be this big box office hit and he was having fun playing such a fun character, and he felt a lot less pressure coming back into the role for the sequel. He loved that children would recognize him as Gomez Addams and his family spoke about how meaningful it was in his final months because he loved making children happy. They still tried to get Anjelica Huston(Morticia) to do the 3rd film, and she straight up told them, "Not without my Gomez" 😭🖤. RIP Raul Julia, My Gomez Addams... That long loc'd Mr. Steal Your Girl character is Cousin It lol. We don't understand what he's saying, like R2D2, but we love him anyways lol. Speaking of R2D2, I always refer to Thing as the R2D2 of The Addams Family. He always comes through and helps save the day somehow, and just as much family, and loved as such, as everyone else in it... I can't remember if you're one of the few reactors that've reacted to it or not, but if you're interested in a fun, 00s, campy horror film to watch, check out Cursed(2005), starring Christina Ricci and Jesse Einsenberg from the Zombieland films... Make sure you watch Addams Family Values (1993). Considered one of those rare sequel films that most people find even better than the first one. Most people react to it in November for Thanksgiving(you'll know why when you see it lol), which is perfect is the first one is usually reacted to in October for Spooky Season... Annnnnnd, I know this is random, other than that it's technically a 90s horror-comedy action tv series, but it just popped in my head and felt like Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be a great series you'd really love, including the spin-off. It was a originally a movie that was written by Joss Whedon(later created Firefly/Serenity, and wrote/dorectrd Avengers 1 & 2), who created Buffy with the concept/idea of like your typical, blonde teenage girl that you'd typically find in a movie being chased down by a horror killer/monster(funny because Sarah Michelle Gellar, the TV version of Buffy, is a 90s Scream Queen that gave us great horror chase scenes like Scream 2, but especially famously in I Know What You Did Last Summer), only for that girl turn around and kick the monster's ass. Whedon felt like movie was compromised by creative conflict and it suffer becoming a flop, now cult classic(I always loved it and dressed up as a cheerleader for Halloween because of it when I was 4 lol). Years Later, he got the opportunity to create a tv series for the character and try to don't his way. The first season got picked up as a half season replacement on a new network at the time called the WB(much later turned CW), so it only got 12 episodes and a pretty low budget that no one thought the show would even get a second season about some supernatural teen show on some new network, so the first season is more fun and very campy(the series is heavy on the humor, but season 1 just so happens to be more campy than the rest if the series, but it's creatively fun camp), but during season 2 is where tge show truly find its footing, locks in, and just starts eating forreal season after season. It's a mostly 22 episodes per season, 7 season(with a 5 seasons spin off that's mean to be watched along with it, but that doesn't start until like later which there a watch order guide online that YT reactors follow) is probably viewed as a long commitment, but it's honestly the type of series that when you finish it, it'll be worth the journey, which is exactly what it is. It is the show that changed the game in television, ESPECIALLY supernatural since this series, many have tried to swagger jack to live up to it, but has yet to reach it, and still heavily praised to this day tha there's literally a thing called "Buffy Studies", regarding to the wide range of hundreds of articles, books, and the acamedic related contribution to various college course academic prop from pop culture tv/film, psychology, women's studies, philosophy, and many more. The TV Trope website was originally a Buffy website message board and spawned from there because they created, popularized, and/or paid significsng contrivution to a lot of tv/movie tropes that we know today. Also, Buffy still has strong, huge fanbase to this day. They're actually bring the show back as a continuation for Hulu. Sarah Michelle Gellar's been back in the gym training(she's actually a black belt in Taekwondo from her dedicated training during Buffy, if I'm not mistaken), and she just finished filming the the pilot for it a few weeks ago. So I'm excited for that.(I totally wrote this comment before finishing the reaction, and somehow totally forgot that there IS a technically as Buffy connection as the Girls Scout actresses(Mercedes McNab, who is also in the sequel literally played a reoccuring reoccurring character in Buffyverse, where I could played it off as my inspirational reasoning for recconnending Buufy the Vampire Slayer TV Series reactions in the first place, when reality is that I really just love the show and love watching it, and just thought you'd dig it since I couldn't remember hearing if you ever watched it or not, and decided to shoot my TV reccomendation shot ☺️😄)...

Don’t forget “Street Fighter” (1994) his last role. He did that movie for his kids even when he was really sick.

Amber, you may recognize a grown Christina Ricci (Wednesday) as the dorm mother in season one of the Wednesday series. Dan Hedaya (Tully), the actor you couldn't place, has a an extensive filmography. I best remember him as a bad guy in Commando and the dad in Clueless.

This was a fun movie. I loved both The Addams Family & The Munsters growing up. I saw that Rob Zombie actually made a Munsters movie a few years ago staring his wife. Haven't seen it yet, though. After having watched Dexter s3, with Gomez' thin mustache--sorry: moostache 😁, I kept seeing Miguel Prada every other scene, it was pretty funny. Even in the TV show, Morticia & Gomez's chemistry was great...a rather saucy couple for sure! Whenever 'Tish' would say anything in French, Gomez would grab her arm and kiss all the way up it, starting with her hand. Lurch I wouldn't describe as Frankenstein's monster, that would for sure be Herman Munster! I kept waiting for the fire breathing dragon under the stairs, but that was the Munsters. His name was Spot 😂

It wasn't until this movie that Uncle Fester suddenly became Gomez's brother. In the original series, Uncle Fester was Morticia's uncle. And as much as I enjoyed Christopher Lloyd's portrayal, there's simply no living up to Jackie Coogan; nor Ted Cassidy's portrayal of Lurch (and Thing). If you get the chance, watch the following two episodes from the original series: "Morticia's Romance (Part 1)" & "Morticia's Romance (Part 2)" as they tell the full backstory of how Morticia and Gomez met, and explain who all the family members are. Fun fact, Morticia's mom is portrayed by Margaret Hamilton, who played the Wicked Witch of the West in 'The Wizard of Oz.'

There's a sequel called Addam's Family Values, a TV show from the 60's, which I strongly recommend, and two animated movies, which I 'd also recommend.

Hey everyone! Is anyone else having trouble with Patreon? I’ve been struggling to access Amber's page lately. On a different note, I wanted to share that I had the incredible opportunity to meet Raúl Juliá a couple of months before he passed away at a Sunday afternoon event in NYC. We chatted for about a minute, and it meant so much to me! It’s pretty cool that we both were born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. So, the quick chat took off from there. You must check him out in The Kiss of the Spiderwoman. Peace.

David Berrios Rodriguez

Yes! Please do Addams Family Values soon too. And Young Frankenstein.

Raul Julia was great . Moon over parador & Tequila sunrise were my favorites

Dennis Fawcett

Ditto, Lewsifer! They are an amazing Duology. Nice seeing you over here, Man!

Lord Jeremy

Every time I’m in the mood to watch something… You drop the magic! Both Addams Family films are two of my favorites I just have this thing for anything Addams!

Lord Jeremy

The sequel The Adams Family Values(1993) is also great to watch especially for Thanksgiving

Lewsifer

The tv series was great and I am still amazed it only lasted two seasons. Back then, shows had more episodes (30-35 a year). I was nervous about this movie, but after seeing it I was pleasantly surprised. They did a phenomenal job. What I love about “The Addams Family” and why I prefer it to “The Munsters” is because “The Addams Family” were unique and different yet they embraced it. “The Munsters” looked strange, but really were a normal family. The Addams’s showed is a family that was odd yet they truly loved each other. And Gomez and Morticia were truly a great couple that absolutely adored each other.

Sweetish_Jeff_25

Amber scrap the evil clown costume for Halloween, you would make a great Morticia.

Marvel Studios has a Halloween special called Werewolf by Night. It’s a standalone one-hour film so it wouldn’t take long and you don’t have to worry about watching other projects beforehand. It was directed by Michael Giacchino, a long-time composer behind musical scores for a number of films. He even composed the Marvel Studios fanfare, and yes he also composed the music for this special. Werewolf By Night has two versions: the original which is in monochrome and another version in color. It’s all up to personal preference. And I’m not sure if you saw Kpop Demon Hunters already, but if you haven’t I would go for the sing-along version as it is a musical.
