I love that the original Elphaba and Galinda, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, were the women in the musical play. I think you would enjoy Cynthia Erivo's book (Simply More: A Book for Anyone who Has Been Told They're Too Much)

2025-12-06 15:28:41 +0000 UTCUgh that ending gets me everytime!!. No matter how many times I watch this movie, I ugly cry at the end. I refuse to watch this movie with anyone. Glad I finally had someone to watch it with!❤️

2025-11-21 07:31:58 +0000 UTCThe Wicked Witch is allergic to water. Therefore, she has NEVER taken a bath! Mabey she could wash the green off.

2025-11-20 18:07:58 +0000 UTCThank you, this is what I have been saying since i first saw the Wizard of Oz when I was a little girl,! I mean, by the end of the movie, the leader of each corner of Oz was dead or banished, leaving Glinda "the good witch" the sole ruler over all of Oz! And honestly, Glinda's character in the 14 book Wizard of Oz series was even more power hungry, and diabolically manipulative!

2025-11-19 04:09:46 +0000 UTCThank you so very much for your amazing reaction to this movie, which is quite frankly one of my favorite movies! Your reaction was just the perfect thing to see the day before I go to see part 2 in theaters after work tomorrow! I know it is not fair to ask of a reactor something I could never do myself, but I hope you wait to see the 2nd one until you are able to react to it online! Everyone reactor I have seen comes into the movie with the same thought, what is it that causes this kind girl to turn into the Wicked Witch? As for the symmetry to Wednesday, its similar but in reverse. Here, it is the gothic outsider who is genuinely compassionate and the colorful blonde who is a narcissist. Regardless of the way Galinda/Glinda acts kind and innocent, to me she will always be the villain (well, the overarching villain of Oz, though it is the Wizard and Morrible who are the main villains of Wicked part 1). The only semi redeeming quality of Galinda/Glinda is her "friendship" with Elphaba, which has been 100% transactional from the beginning when Galinda cleaned up the mess of her own cruel prank at the Ozdust ballroom, and not even out of genuine kindness or remorse but only after finding out Elphaba handed her the one thing she wanted most, to learn sorcery from Madame Morrible! Elphaba, who has never had a friend before, believed Galinda's gifts and "friendship" were truly genuine. Then, once they got to the Emerald city and saw haw corrupt and evil both the wizard and Morrible were, Glinda gaslights and abandons Elphaba to side with the fascists immediately after they publicly insult and vilify Elphaba. So Galinda gets no kudos from me for her actions at the Ozdust, nor does Glinda get the benefit of the doubt in the Emerald City Glinda because she never planned to leave with Elphaba, that was clear in her expression before she called away to grab the cloak.

2025-11-19 02:10:22 +0000 UTCHonestly, the Wizard and Glinda were kind of the true villains in the original Wizard of Oz too. I mean....a little girl drops her house on Elphaba's sister, kills her, and steals her shoes (which were maybe her mothers shoes? I know they were silver in the original book). And then Glinda and the Wizard convince this girl to break into Elphaba's home and murder her, and then tell her that she had the power to go home all along. Super manipulative. Lol. I saw Wicked in the theater last Christmas, and I think the next one comes out this week! I can't wait to see it and see your reaction to that one as well. I was completely snot-faced by the end both times I watched this, and I bet the second part will be the same situation.

2025-11-09 23:54:37 +0000 UTCThis is the first time I've actually watched the movie. I just never took the time to sit down with it. I'm glad it was through your eyes. Reading the books, I knew what was going to happen and your heartbreak moved me just as I was moved by the book. No one is born evil. No one. Even the Wicked Witch of the West.

2025-11-09 21:05:24 +0000 UTCThe books, both the original and retelling are amazing.

2025-11-09 21:00:54 +0000 UTCWow! No one mentioned the og Elphaba and Glinda. Kristen Chenowith and Idina Menzel. The two women who came out at Oz to sing and fight for the spotlight. They ended up with one going to Glinda the other Elphaba. They originated the roles on Broadway. The two of them singing it will blow your mind. You can find it on YT, check it out.

2025-11-09 21:00:15 +0000 UTCI saw that Oscar’s performance. It was incredible. And I have not even seen the movie yet. That would be a good reaction for Amber.

2025-11-09 17:46:54 +0000 UTCIf u didn't know yet, the "two wise ones" in the emerald city scene are the original Broadway actresses of Elphaba and Glinda! ❤️ (Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth)

2025-11-09 17:44:11 +0000 UTCThis was my first time watching this, and I was impressed! From costuming, to choreography, the singing, storyline… What a terrific film! Cynthia Erivo played the role of Elphaba to perfection. I recently watched her portray Aretha Franklin in the National Geographic miniseries Genius. IMO, she was even better than Jennifer Hudson in the movie Respect. Had so much fun watching this with you Amber. Now I can’t wait for part two! ♥️

2025-11-09 17:43:54 +0000 UTCMiss Amber, it was moving to see how you connected with the film. I highly, highly recommend you see the film, Rent. I saw it on Broadway in the 80’s, and I KNOW you love everything from that time. Thank you for always being so authentic. Your positive energy is always infectious!

2025-11-09 16:16:03 +0000 UTCAmber because you loved the precise choreography in this, i wanted to just recommend West Side Story (1961) if you havent seen it? its arguably the best choreography in theatre history and really left its mark.

2025-11-09 11:36:02 +0000 UTCI stayed up late to watch this reaction, just because. Like you, I went into seeing this for the first time without any knowledge as to the storyline (had never seen the play nor read the book that the play is based on). When they were at the dance, and you couldn't figure out why you were starting to cry..... that's a testament to Cynthia Erivo's acting abilities. She is so masterful with facial and eye expressions, that without saying a word she can affect an audience..... and then when she unleashes that powerful voice of hers..... I became an instant fan, and I can see why she's been such a powerhouse in London Theater before moving onto television and movies. There's always a risk when casting someone like Ariana in a supporting role that their voice will dominate..... so when Cynthia fully unleashes her voice in that final song it just sends chills up one's spine. By the way, they performed all those songs live during filming.... there were no studio recordings dubbed into the film. Due to Ariana and Cynthia's abilities to perform live, they felt it would be best to do so throughout filming. If you get a chance, watch their live performance at this year's Oscars. Arian starts off singing 'Over the Rainbow' from the original Wizard of Oz, then Cynthia sings 'Home' from The Wiz, and then they perform 'Defying Gravity' from this movie..... and it sounds every bit as great as it does in the movie. They complement one another so well, but even Ariana knows when to take a back seat to Cythia. Just an incredibly talented performer in every aspect.

2025-11-09 02:04:39 +0000 UTCAaahhhhhhh, no spoilers but one of the most beautifully tragic stories. Highly recommend watching some lore videos or even reading the original Oz books (even though this is a fantasy “retelling” and not a part of the original series). Also I’m sure others will say this too but the ruby shoes were originally diamond but Warners bros. Made them ruby for the movie and still own the right for the ruby slippers and that’s why the shoes were presented in a ruby encased shoe box

2025-11-09 02:04:37 +0000 UTCWith Guillermo Del Toro’s “Frankenstein” now available on Netflix, maybe you’ll want to watch his brilliant “Pans Labyrinth”. Would make a good atmospheric movie for November.
