DeBarge- Rhythm of the Night

It was easy for me to get fooled back in the days of listening to the radio. When I first heard this song, I thought sure it was sung by Kool & the Gang. And earlier when I first heard they were a family group, I thought they were the DeFranco family (in the 70s the DeFranco's had a hit called, "Heartbeat, it's a Love Beat." You should check out that video). The DeFrancos were formed due to the popularity of the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds. But this group, DeBarge was Motown R&B/Soul thru and thru.

Amber - Long time subscriber & supporter. I know you're a fan of the British bands, meaning Queen, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and others. There has only been one British artist after 2000 who has the most hits, records, streams, etc. HIs name is Robbie Williams. You reacted to him once back in the day. Highly recommend any of his YouTube live performances from the "Live at Knebworth" show. Appreciate the channel.

The Mad Icelander

Definitely an 80’s classic. Takes me back to when I was a little guy

Kurt

Omg.... do you remember Dino? He did I Like It and Romeo. Horribly cheesy but catchy.

Southern Gentleman

Ohhhh...THOSE DAYS!!! It makes me think of the compilation, tape blasting on the boom box, while we were getting dressed and groomed before going out and we were already dancing and singing🤗

Hiya Amber, that instrument you're hearing in “Rhythm of the Night” is a tenor pan, (or the steel drum) playing that bright, sustained melodic line in the upper register with its clean, bell-like timbre and long ring time. Its quick, cascading triplet fills and chromatic runs add that distinctive Caribbean shimmer over the song’s synth-pop foundation. This was big around that time as Miami Sound Machine, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Lionel Richie and other producers caught on this would be a catchy way to hook the listener. "Wait, I've never heard that before, what is that?" MTV was ablaze with this type of content on the daily. I've seen others state DeBarge was a family band. It's just a damn shame what happened in the back end that eventually broke the band up with Bobby going to prison for drug trafficking and contracting HIV in prison where he passed away. I hate those tragic stories. "The Nose Snow" fugged up so many lives in the 80s. Oh man, back when gas was just over a buck caused a huge uproar. Those days were great. My car had a 25 gallon tank: Hanging out with my homies at the cafeteria's section called, "The Wall". Only the hoodlums and rockers hungout there. We ran off the preps. BWAHA! "Hey man, are we going to Brainerd this weekend for the Lumberjack Games, man?" "Yep!" "You driving?" "Yep." "Cool man, see you then! Friday after work?" "Yep! Time to pop smoke and hit the bricks, later, man." Even back then I wasn't about small talk. 16 years old. Ah, HS, what a time. During the week I'd drive the rig until I was at half an 8th of a tank, with just enough to pick everyone up. Pullin up to the gas station, "Alright fuckers, pay up. 5 bucks a piece! Pitch in, I ain't your fuckin cab!" They'd grumble, "You want to go to the Lumberjack Games or not fucker?" "Alright, shit! Here's 10! Fuck! You're such a prick, Erick!" "Yeah, well, make sure you have that 10 or another 5 or we're pushing this land yacht home Monday morning!" Thanks for the reaction, Amber, good tunes bring back good memories. Needed that today. Take care, and y'all have a good one.

SERGEANT ROCK'S HEADBANGERS BALL

Who looked entirely too much like her brother.

Rowan Figueroa

The brother driving the car in the video is James Debarge, he was married to Janet Jackson for a short time in the 80’s. He was her first husband!

Anthony Caples

This song was on the movie Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon. Definitely an 80's classic! The movie as well as song 😁

JoJo

Yes, DeBarge is a family group. They're all siblings.
