Prince- Nothing Compares 2 U

Comments

Great reaction Amber! Rosie Gaines is who was singing with him, she was a terrific singer and one of my favorite members of his New Power Generation band

Stuff just flying off the shelf at you, eh? LOL! Prince's every move, song, musical tone, lyric, whatever was an expression of class, style, and total genius. Thank you, Miss Amber, for another great reaction!

I used to work with a young lady that was a lesbian. She told me that she could be friends with a man, but NOTHING else.... except Prince. She told me that Prince could do ANYTHING he wanted to her. I agree with you, Bob Dylan was NEVER sexy. I'm straight (about 95% anyway) but I wouldn't kick Prince out of my bed.

Raymond Ohlsen

Yes, yes, yes.

Great idea! Or even completely different songs with the same name would be cool. Like...Lana Del Rey, Neil Diamond, and Prince all have songs called "Cinnamon Girl."

Prince beyond being one of the most charismatic performers and musicians is one of the most prolific songwriters of his generation. As a Gen Xer, I’m really grateful that I got to grow up during that time when MTV was young and it was good. Prince was new. Michael Jackson as a solo artist was new. Even Madonna’s early years. And Prince is up there with Bob Dylan as far as I’m concerned. Except Bob wasn’t as sexy. 😉

Don't tell me you never reacted to Chris Cornell's version? It's soooooo haunting and BEAUTIFUL ❤️ https://youtu.be/IuUDRU9-HRk?si=auJNlfmx21jlGfHy

I’ve been recommending the Glam Slam show as well, of course 💜

Hi Amber! Prince Prince Prince! Fun fact: that’s Larry Graham on bass. He’s the original bass player of Sly and the Family Stone and later Graham Central Station. Legendary!! Thank you so so much! Great reaction as always!!

Fun idea: react to groups of songs from different artists that share a musical through line or progression. This could be as simple as reacting to a song and its cover(s) in a single video. Or it could involve more complex re-makes, interpolations, and samples. I’m sure your subscriber community could volunteer plenty of examples.

Yes, girl!! I love that you did a live version with Rosie. Sinead's version has a sort of desolate loneliness to it that definitely makes it her own (and Prince's original demo version had a pretty similar feel), but I absolutely love Prince and Rosie's soulful duet version of the song. I also love that he had his piano on a platform that he could only get to by crowd surfing. One of my favorite parts of this show is the look on the woman's face when he asks for her help getting up on the metal barrier in front of the crowd, so he could crowd surf over to the piano. And you're totally right about it being so epic the way he looks totally captivated by the music and at ease at the same time. Shameless plug (again 😂) for the Glam Slam 1992 show that I keep suggesting. Lol. Rosie Gaines is all over that show too, and they are magic together. And she's just as good of a rapper as she is a singer. Also, the concert that this performance is from, "Rave Un2 the Year 2000," was aired as a pay-per-view special on NYE 1999, and they do a whole New Year's celebration that would be perfect for you to react to for NYE in a few weeks. I also have a google drive link for this full show (cause why wouldn't I? 😂😂) - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XMjPRzkNLdroPNrrDejrtgp5pCSaBMEB/view?usp=drive_link

Ah yes! The Rave Un2 the Year 2000 live concert filmed at Paisley Park for New Year’s 1999. This is a great watch! I have some friends that were at that show. The singer is Rosie Gaines, a former member of his band The New Power Generation.
