2026-01-28 03:32:14 +0000 UTCIs there such a thing as a bad Denzel Washington movie? I've seen some that weren't very good, but it wasn't because of Denzel. "Training Day" is probably his best performance out of these four, but it's close. I really like "Man on Fire", but it has as much to do with how good a young Dakota Fanning was in it as it has to do with Denzel's performance. It is Denzel's movie though, ultimately. I liked "American Gangster", but I hope one of the other three wins.

2026-01-28 00:24:15 +0000 UTC"Glory" (1989) wasn't Denzel Washington's first movie role, but I'd argue it was early enough to have happened before he became just "Denzel." It's an awesome and emotional movie, based on a real (and famous) Black infantry unit in Union Army in the Civil War. Bonuses: Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, Cary Elwes (and Matthew Broderick, if you like that sort of thing.)

Man on Fire", "The Equalizer" trilogy (so far), "Safehouse", "John Q", "He Got Game", "The Hurricane", "The Book of Eli", "Flight", "The Magnificent Seven" are all fantastic... as well as all the poll picks above. But my two favorites that I feel are stellar performances are "Fences" and the absolutely amazing "Philadelphia" which won Tom Hanks first Best Actor Academy Award the year prior to Forrest Gump. You simply cannot go wrong with most Denzel films! Happy Watching!
