Many people have said that the Simon and Garfunkel original is a warning that something is going to happen, that the Disturbed version is someone angry that the event IS happening and no one is doing anything, and that Geoff's version is the resignation and sorrow that is has happened, tempered at the end by the hope that people have learned the lesson the event taught.
