This was performed right after Earl left and I believe was meant to be a comfort that even though things changed, they would still be around. The lyrics are so on point. I think that’s why they started it so slowly because there’s a bit of a subdued bittersweet feeling about the performance. And you summed it up perfectly with the word “yearning”, which they followed up with that reassurance. Hopefully that puts the different arrangement in perspective. The other song that they performed right after his departure was with just the four of them and it was the Heart of Life.
