PATREON EXCLUSIVE | Alternate Animatics - Cyclops Saga - Epic: The Musical

Comments

begging you to check out wolfy’s warrior of the mind

Ratatosk Clarke

Please check out Ximena Natzel’s animatic for Polyphemus! It’s my absolute favourite animatic for the song! It’s so well done, with the colour red being used to portray the sinister and suspenseful tone. I also absolutely love how Ximena drew Odysseus’s expressions too! It’s also one of the more well-liked animatics in the fandom for Polyphemus, at least when comparing views. Please check it out if you have the chance. I’d love to see your reaction for it!

I've always thought that Athena never fully abandons Odysseus too. You know the piano at the beginning of Ruthlessness? Since piano = Athena, I took that the mean that she was there watching eveything Poseidon did. That she cares about Odysseus enough not to abandon him, but to allow him to suffer the consequences of his actions was to me, a mentor teaching a student a very hard lesson.

He's fine! He's fine. He's. Fine. It's true. I'm not fine. Me tho xD Also hah I have no family friendly filter, you should have heard me experiencing Epic for the first time xD I'll try and behave in the comments of your vids but yeah Epic does that to people.

Part of my agrees wholeheartedly, but also... wait, spoiler space for those who've not seen the rest of the show yet, IDK if they work on patreon but consider this the warning lol. > > > > > > > > > > > I like the idea of Athena being left by him because to me it better fits her change of heart later in the show. The fact that she still keeps track of him, befriends Telemachus, refers to them both as her friends, and seems to defy Zeus to help him, all suggest that she has an emotional involvement in him as her friend during My Goodbye that she's not aware of until after the fact. Like, yeah, it makes sense for her to be the one to walk away all callous and cold because she's a god she DGAF, but that's not her characterisation in Epic - in Epic, she's much more human. She's excited to have him with her and playful with him from the very beginning, she entertains his kid, she's personally hurt when he challenges her, and so on. Whether she acknowledges it or not she does want his friendship, and losing it hurts her enough that she's still trying to fix it years later.

Yeah me too... I was like...what swear word....hmm and as soon as i noticed that d**n i thought...wait that must be it...even though I would have never titled that a swear...

So Mircy's animatics are my favorite for pretty much the entire Cyclops Saga. I like her "My Goodbye" best because it not only shows Athena as a wrathful goddess, but how that wrath is at bottom intensely personal for them both. When she attacks Odysseus, it's with all of the things that established their relationship in the first place (throwing the apple at him/attacking him as an owl). Appearing as a bloody Polities in front of his other dead men was hurtful in the way that only someone who loves someone else can do. Mircy's animatics are the only ones I've seen that shows Athena with a human face when she's with Odysseus. You can see her facial expressions and read her emotions when she's amused, pleased, impressed, and in "My Goodbye," bewildered and hurt. To me, that reads as how close she is to Odysseus as his patroness. Other animatics feel more like a mentor really disappointed in a mentee's poor choices. Mircy's feels like the kind of break-up that makes you cut your own bangs. I also like Odysseus in Mircy's because it showing him fighting Athena (he actually escalated the confrontation when he drew his sword and threw it at her) really hammers home the folly of hubris, which is the main theme for "The Odyssey."

Same. I actually had to rewind to find the "swear."

I am absolutely considering doing alternate animatics for the other sagas too!

Fatima Pinzön

Oh yeah!!

Fatima Pinzön

3:20 ah, yes, no one is immune to the power of sexy hand animatics

I recommend GiGi and AnniFlamma for the Ocean Saga and the Circe Saga. Or at least as some extra animatic reactions at least because WOW.

Kayleigh McRae

If you're going to do this seprate reaction aspect again. For the storm saga I have a suggestion. The animator GIGI, has made an animation for both Keep your friends close and Ruthlessness. However, there's a seprate animator for each song that absolutely has styles that need to be seen too. For keep your friends close, there's Ximena Natzel For Ruthlessness, there's one AniFlamma - whome has done my favorite depiction of Posiden to date. Gigi's animation of Ruthlessness is the most recent one, however, I believe that watching AniFlammas animatic first would be best. That's my biased take anyway. In either case, this project of Jay's is a treat. Doesn't really matter how it's enjoyed, as long as it is enjoyed.

I think it’s definitely regional too, I’ve lived in multiple states and noticed the “line” for swear words changes even within the different US states, much less country

Mortius

Maybe it says more about me than anything else but i honestly dont know anybody irl who would consider d**n a swear word. could be the lack of religion in the people i know though.

JimmWasHere

The adorable creatures are Winions, aka the show's mascots! They're also voiced by Jorge, and them being the Lotus Eaters is Epic canon.

You’ve articulated something I love about the difference in the animatics - Wolfy captures the innate humanity and emotion of the humans so well and Mircsy does the supernatural/gods such justice. The only thing is I think I prefer Wolfy’s take on this song - more of an emotional verbal confrontation than a physical fight. I think I also prefer having Athena be the one to walk away from Odysseus; she’s the one saying goodbye and she’s the one with the power in this relationship. Having Odysseus be able to turn his back on such a pissed off deity doesn’t strike me as much as him starting off defiant and then kind of lost as Athena actually leaves him. Anyway just my two cents.
